TL;DR: The experimental results confirm that the proposed method suppresses noise (CMOS/CCD image sensor noise model) while effectively interpolating the missing pixel components, demonstrating a significant improvement in image quality when compared to treating demosaicing and denoising problems independently.
Abstract: The output image of a digital camera is subject to a severe degradation due to noise in the image sensor. This paper proposes a novel technique to combine demosaicing and denoising procedures systematically into a single operation by exploiting their obvious similarities. We first design a filter as if we are optimally estimating a pixel value from a noisy single-color (sensor) image. With additional constraints, we show that the same filter coefficients are appropriate for color filter array interpolation (demosaicing) given noisy sensor data. The proposed technique can combine many existing denoising algorithms with the demosaicing operation. In this paper, a total least squares denoising method is used to demonstrate the concept. The algorithm is tested on color images with pseudorandom noise and on raw sensor data from a real CMOS digital camera that we calibrated. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method suppresses noise (CMOS/CCD image sensor noise model) while effectively interpolating the missing pixel components, demonstrating a significant improvement in image quality when compared to treating demosaicing and denoising problems independently

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system for automatically focusing an image within a still camera is disclosed, which includes moving the lens through the plurality of focus zones of the image to obtain exposure and focus information about the image.
Abstract: A method and system for automatically focusing an image within a still camera is disclosed. The method and system comprises providing initial focus and exposure values of the image, calculating an exposure setting for the image, and determining a plurality of focus zones for the image. The method and system includes moving the lens through the plurality of focus zones of the image to obtain exposure and focus information about the image. Through a method and system in accordance with the present invention, a digital still camera can produce a three-dimensional like data set of a scene.

TL;DR: In this article, a network configuration file is generated at a host computer and downloaded to a digital camera, which contains instruction information for communicating with a selected destination via a communications interface.
Abstract: A network configuration file is generated at a host computer and downloaded to a digital camera. This file contains instruction information for communicating with a selected destination via a communications interface. The digital camera includes a “send” button or LCD icon which allows the user to easily transmit one or more images via a wired or wireless communications interface to a desired destination, which among other possibilities may be an Internet Service Provider or a digital photofinishing center. When the user selects this option, the communications port settings, user account specifics, and destination connection commands are read from the network configuration file on the removable memory card. Examples of these settings include serial port baud rate, parity, and stop bits, as well as account name and password.

TL;DR: In this article, a digital camera that combines the functions of the retinal camera and corneal camera into one, single small, easy-to-use instrument is presented, which can acquire digital images of a retinal region (9) of an eye.
Abstract: A digital camera that combines the functions of the retinal camera and corneal camera into one, single small, easy to use instrument. The single camera can acquire digital images of a retinal region (9) of an eye, and digital images of a corneal region of the eye. The camera includes a first combination of optical elements for making the corneal digital images. A portion of these elements are shared elements including a first objective element (12) of an objective lens combination, a digital image sensor (18) and at least one eyepiece for viewing either the retina or the cornea. The retinal combination also includes a first changeable element of the objective lens system for focusing, in combination with the first objective element, portions or all of the retinal region at or approximately at a common image plane. The retinal combination also includes a retinal illuminating light source (27), an aperture within the frame and positioned within the first combination to form an effective retinal aperture located at or approximately at the lens of the eye defining an effective retinal aperture position, an infrared camera (34) for determining eye position, and an aperture adjustment for adjusting the effective retinal aperture based on position signals from said infrared camera. The cornea combination of elements includes a second changeable element of the objective lens system for focusing, in combination with the first objective element, portions of all or the cornea region at or approximately at a common image plane.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system for matching an unknown facial image of an individual with an image of a celebrity using facial recognition techniques and human perception is presented, where the matching person's name, image and associated meta-data is sent back to the user.
Abstract: A method and system for matching an unknown facial image of an individual with an image of a celebrity using facial recognition techniques and human perception is disclosed herein. The invention provides a internet hosted system to find, compare, contrast and identify similar characteristics among two or more individuals using a digital camera, cellular telephone camera, wireless device for the purpose of returning information regarding similar faces to the user The system features classification of unknown facial images from a variety of internet accessible sources, including mobile phones, wireless camera-enabled devices, images obtained from digital cameras or scanners that are uploaded from PCs, third-party applications and databases. Once classified, the matching person's name, image and associated meta-data is sent back to the user. The method and system uses human perception techniques to weight the feature vectors.
