TL;DR: A new software platform that allows easy access to each stage of the camera imaging pipeline and modification of the parameters for individual components as well as the ability to access and manipulate the intermediate images as they pass through different stages is presented.
Abstract: There are a number of processing steps applied onboard a digital camera that collectively make up the camera imaging pipeline. Unfortunately, the imaging pipeline is typically embedded in a camera’s hardware making it difficult for researchers working on individual components to do so within the proper context of the full pipeline. This not only hinders research, it makes evaluating the effects from modifying an individual pipeline component on the final camera output challenging, if not impossible. This paper presents a new software platform that allows easy access to each stage of the camera imaging pipeline. The platform allows modification of the parameters for individual components as well as the ability to access and manipulate the intermediate images as they pass through different stages. We detail our platform design and demonstrate its usefulness on a number of examples.

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the method can extract a high number of sampling points at high accuracy, provided that there is suitable image texture across the site, and final judgment concerning the suitability of derived data is dependent upon an understanding of measurement variability and user quantification of acceptable accuracy.
Abstract: This paper highlights the requirement for very high resolution (<0·25 m) elevation data for quantitative and qualitative morphometric analyses. Traditional techniques for high resolution data capture (e.g. airborne, heliborne) are prohibitively expensive for small studies and therefore a kite-based platform was developed, in conjunction with a consumer non-metric digital camera, for data capture. The combination of kite and digital camera is more generally termed kite aerial photography (KAP). The accuracy of data derived by digital photogrammetry and imagery acquired using a kite based non-metric camera is assessed by three experiments: one on smooth terrain, one on tor terrain and one on a glaciofluvial esker. Ground control targets were surveyed at all three sites, with the imagery subsequently processed using the Leica Photogrammetry Suite. The results demonstrate that the method can extract a high number of sampling points at high accuracy, provided that there is suitable image texture across the site. However, final judgment concerning the suitability of derived data is dependent upon an understanding of measurement variability and user quantification of acceptable accuracy. TL;DR: In this article, a wireless digital media card is provided for use in a digital camera and a transceiver is configured to transmit image data over a wireless communication link and logic configured to receive image data from the digital camera via the interface and provide the image data to the transceiver for transmission.
Abstract: Improved methods and apparatuses are provided for use with digital cameras. A wireless digital media card is provided for use in a digital camera. The wireless digital media card is configured to replace a conventional digital media card and includes an interface to the digital camera, a transceiver configured to transmit image data over a wireless communication link and logic configured to receive image data from the digital camera via the interface and provide the image data to the transceiver for transmission. The wireless digital media card may also include memory configured to store the image data. A receiving device is configured to store and/or further transfer the image data as needed.

TL;DR: A novel approach to the problem of distinguishing between actual photographs from digital cameras and computer generated images by focusing on the statistical differences between the image textures, which shows high reliability on a standard test set of JPEG compressed images from consumer digital cameras.
Abstract: With increasing technical advances, computer graphics are becoming more photorealistic. Therefore, it is important to develop methods for distinguishing between actual photographs from digital cameras and computer generated images. We describe a novel approach to this problem. Rather than focusing on the statistical differences between the image textures, we recognize that images from digital cameras contain traces of resampling as a result of using a color filter array with demosaicing algorithms. We recognize that estimation of the actual demosaicing parameters is not necessary; rather, detection of the presence of demosaicing is the key. The in-camera processing (rather than the image content) distinguishes the digital camera photographs from computer graphics. Our results show high reliability on a standard test set of JPEG compressed images from consumer digital cameras. Further, we show the application of these ideas for accurately localizing forged regions within digital camera images.

TL;DR: A digital camera is equipped with means for recognising if the information in an image is text- or image-based, or can also be used for conventional digital photographing as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A digital camera is equipped with means for recognising if the information in an image is text- or image-based, or can also be used for conventional digital photographing. It is also equipped with optical character reading-means (OCR). Several methods of using such a camera are described, e.g. ordering articles and services from advertisements or catalogues; creating case records for medical care; transmitting hand-written letters and messages by mobile phone; registering and manipulating documentation from appointments and conferences; and controlling flows of packets, goods or products.
