TL;DR: In this article, a system for isolating digital data representative of portions of a field of view is described, which is based on a set of values programmed in a programmable lookup table, and a buffer is provided for holding the isolated digital representations.
Abstract: The invention provides a system for isolating digital data representative of portions of a field of view. The system, which may be provided in the form of a digital camera, includes an array of sensor cells adapted to provide digital representations corresponding to at least a portion of the field of view, and a selector adapted to isolate a non-uniformly distributed subset of the digital representations provided by the array. The isolation may be performed based upon a set of values programmed in a programmable lookup table. A buffer is provided for holding the isolated digital representations.

03 May 1999TL;DR: In this article, an image server is used to capture images from a digital camera, and the images can be stored on the image server and be searched by text (i.e., from the captions or titles) or by image features.
Abstract: An image server is captures images from a digital camera. When the image storage device is removed from the camera and placed into a port of the image server, the image server automatically detects the image storage device and downloads the images stored thereon, adding various data elements, such as a camera ID, data of capture, and the like. Once the image is stored in the image server, the image server generates an HTML page that references the new image, or adds a new reference to an existing HTML page. The HTML pages are made available to web browsers that are able to access the image server and the images are thus presented, with optional captions and titles. The images can be stored on the image server and be searched by text (i.e., from the captions or titles) or by image features.

TL;DR: In this paper, a red-eye filter is used to detect the presence of a reflection within an eye of a subject of a photograph and modify the stored image by changing the red area to black.
Abstract: A digital camera has an integral flash and stores and displays a digital image. Under certain conditions, a flash photograph taken with the camera may result in a red-eye phenomenon due to a reflection within an eye of a subject of the photograph. A digital apparatus has a red-eye filter which analyzes the stored image for the red-eye phenomenon and modifies the stored image to eliminate the red-eye phenomenon by changing the red area to black. The modification of the image is enabled when a photograph is taken under conditions indicative of the red-eye phenomenon. The modification is subject to anti-falsing analysis which further examines the area around the red-eye area for indicia of the eye of the subject. The detection and correction can be optimized for performance and quality by operating on subsample versions of the image when appropriate.

TL;DR: In this article, a video-endoscopic surgery training system includes a housing defining a practice volume in which a simulated anatomical structure is disposed, and a digital video camera is disposed within the housing to image the anatomical structure on a display.
Abstract: A videoendoscopic surgery training system includes a housing defining a practice volume in which a simulated anatomical structure is disposed. Openings in the housing enable surgical instruments inserted into the practice volume to access the anatomical structure. A digital video camera is disposed within the housing to image the anatomical structure on a display. The position of the digital video camera can be fixed within the housing, or the digital video camera can be positionable within the housing to capture images of different portions of the practice volume. In one embodiment the digital video camera is coupled to a boom, a proximal end of which extends outside the housing to enable positioning the digital video camera. The housing preferably includes a light source configured to illuminate the anatomical structure. One or more reflectors can be used to direct an image of the anatomical structure to the digital video camera.

28 Mar 1997TL;DR: In this article, a pre-measuring device obtains color temperature information according to external light in a preliminary exposure, and a white balance control value is then determined when a strobe light is generated.
Abstract: In a digital camera, a pre-measuring device obtains color temperature information according to external light in a preliminary exposure. A white balance control value is then determined. The white balance is subsequently adjusted when a strobe light is generated. A regular exposure is thereafter made using the strobe light and the image is recorded for future processing.
