TL;DR: Through the use of simulation, the effects of individual digital camera components on system performance and image quality can be quantified, which can be helpful for both camera design and imagequality assessment.
Abstract: We describe a simulation of the complete image processing pipeline of a digital camera, beginning with a radiometric description of the scene captured by the camera and ending with a radiometric description of the image rendered on a display. We show that there is a good correspondence between measured and simulated sensor performance. Through the use of simulation, we can quantify the effects of individual digital camera components on system performance and image quality. This computational approach can be helpful for both camera design and image quality assessment.

TL;DR: A fast searching algorithm that utilizes special "fingerprint digests" and sparse data structures to address several tasks that forensic analysts will find useful when deploying camera identification from fingerprints in practice is presented.
Abstract: Sensor fingerprint is a unique noise-like pattern caused by slightly varying pixel dimensions and inhomogeneity of the
silicon wafer from which the sensor is made. The fingerprint can be used to prove that an image came from a specific
digital camera. The presence of a camera fingerprint in an image is usually established using a detector that evaluates
cross-correlation between the fingerprint and image noise. The complexity of the detector is thus proportional to the
number of pixels in the image. Although computing the detector statistic for a few megapixel image takes several
seconds on a single-processor PC, the processing time becomes impractically large if a sizeable database of camera
fingerprints needs to be searched through. In this paper, we present a fast searching algorithm that utilizes special
"fingerprint digests" and sparse data structures to address several tasks that forensic analysts will find useful when
deploying camera identification from fingerprints in practice. In particular, we develop fast algorithms for finding if a
given fingerprint already resides in the database and for determining whether a given image was taken by a camera
whose fingerprint is in the database.

11 May 2000TL;DR: In this paper, a method and digital camera for capturing images for requesting and confirming an image order to be provided by a service provider is presented, which includes a capture device for capturing digital images and an interface for storing the captured digital images on a removable digital storage media in a first directory, and for reading digital images from both the first directory and from a second directory on the removable storage media.
Abstract: A method and digital camera for capturing images for requesting and confirming an image order to be provided by a service provider. The camera includes a capture device for capturing digital images and an interface for storing the captured digital images on a removable digital storage media in a first directory, and for reading digital images from both the first directory and from a second directory on the removable digital storage media. A user interface is provided for selecting the first directory or the second directory. The camera also has a display for displaying information and image stored in the selected directory. The second directory can be used for placing an image order and/or reviewing confirmation provided by a service provider of an image order.

TL;DR: In this article, a vital sign monitor that includes an analog-to-digital converter and a control component is presented, which can convert the first signal and second signal into a first digital signal and a second digital signal, respectively.
Abstract: The invention features a vital sign monitor that includes: 1) a sensor component that attaches to the patient and features an optical sensor and an electrical sensor that measure, respectively a first and second signal: and 2) a control component. The control component features: 1) an analog-to-digital converter configured to convert the first signal and second signal into, respectively, a first digital signal and a second digital signal; 2) a CPU configured to operate an algorithm that generates a blood pressure value by processing with an algorithm the first digital signal and second digital signal; 3) a display element; 4) a graphical user interface generated by computer code operating on the CPU and configured to render on the display element the blood pressure value; and 5) a software component that renders video images on the display element. To capture video and audio information, the device further includes both a digital camera and a microphone.

30 Oct 1992TL;DR: In this paper, a digital camera was used to capture a front-on image of an individual's face and converted the captured image to an electronic signal that was downloaded into a personal computer.
Abstract: The current invention provides a device that produces a three-dimensional object with custom art work from an electronic signal. More particularly, the preferred implementation is a device for making masquerade-type masks, and includes a digital camera that captures a front-on image of an individual's face and converts the captured image to an electronic signal that is downloaded into a personal computer. The computer is utilized to select an image, process that image to remove background, scale the image to correspond to the dimensions and features of a facial die that will be used to mold the mask, and to provide for special effects processing of the selected image. An ink jet plotter is then directed to print the processed image upon thin, flat plastic, which is aligned with the facial features of the die and deformed to skin tight conformance with the die by a vacuum-forming process. The finished mask bears art work, upon its convex exterior, that realistically imitates the face of the individual which served as the model for the mask.
