TL;DR: In this article, a system for acquiring, processing, storing, analysing and reporting data relating to the condition of a road or other pavement surface in real time is presented, which includes a digital camera mounted on a vehicle and positioned relative to a pavement surface.
Abstract: A system for acquiring, processing, storing, analysing and reporting data relating to the condition of a road or other pavement surface in real time. The system includes a digital camera mounted on a vehicle and positioned relative to a pavement surface so as to capture images of the pavement surface whilst the camera is moving relative to the surface. The system also includes an illumination assembly to illuminate the region from which an image is taken and an interface between the digital camera and at least one computer. The system also includes processing means in the computer for processing the images to detect and classify cracks and other pavement surface features.

TL;DR: In this paper, a camera-based object detection system for severely visually impaired or blind person consisting a digital camera mounted on the person's eyeglass or head that takes images on demand.
Abstract: A camera-based object detection system for a severely visually impaired or blind person consisting a digital camera mounted on the person's eyeglass or head that takes images on demand. Near-real time image processing algorithms decipher certain attributes of the captured image by processing it for edge pattern detection within a central region of the image. The results are classified by artificial neural networks trained on a list of known objects, in a look up table, or by a threshold. Once the pattern is classified a descriptive sentence is constructed of the object and its certain attributes and a computer-based voice synthesizer is used to verbally announce the descriptive sentence. The invention is used to determine the size of an object, or its distance from another object, and can be used in conjunction with an IR-sensitive camera to provide “sight” in poor visibility conditions, or at night.

TL;DR: In this paper, a digital camera system in which image information photographed by a camera and stored in an image memory is subjected to image processing via a CPU of an image handling apparatus and is taken in the image memory.
Abstract: There is disclosed a digital camera system in which image information photographed by a digital camera and stored in an image memory is subjected to image processing via a CPU of an image handling apparatus and is taken in the image memory. Content of the image processing is indicated by a user with a user instruction section. Moreover, a fee for operating the system is charged by a charging box. Furthermore, after the fee is paid to the charging box, the CPU performs the processing in accordance with the processing content indicated by the user instruction section. The image information subjected to the processing is output by a printer.

TL;DR: In this article, a computing device transitions from a low-power state to an active state, activates an image capture application, and causes a camera device to capture digital images based on a received voice command.
Abstract: A computing device (e.g., a smart phone, a tablet computer, digital camera, or other device with image capture functionality) causes an image capture device to capture one or more digital images based on audio input (e.g., a voice command) received by the computing device. For example, a user's voice (e.g., a word or phrase) is converted to audio input data by the computing device, which then compares (e.g., using an audio matching algorithm) the audio input data to an expected voice command associated with an image capture application. In another aspect, a computing device activates an image capture application and captures one or more digital images based on a received voice command. In another aspect, a computing device transitions from a low-power state to an active state, activates an image capture application, and causes a camera device to capture digital images based on a received voice command.

TL;DR: In this article, a red-eye filter is used to detect the presence of a reflection within an eye of a subject of a photograph and modify the stored image by changing the red area to black.
Abstract: A digital camera has an integral flash and stores and displays a digital image. Under certain conditions, a flash photograph taken with the camera may result in a red-eye phenomenon due to a reflection within an eye of a subject of the photograph. A digital apparatus has a red-eye filter which analyzes the stored image for the red-eye phenomenon and modifies the stored image to eliminate the red-eye phenomenon by changing the red area to black. The modification of the image is enabled when a photograph is taken under conditions indicative of the red-eye phenomenon. The modification is subject to anti-falsing analysis which further examines the area around the red-eye area for indicia of the eye of the subject. The detection and correction can be optimized for performance and quality by operating on subsample versions of the image when appropriate.
