TL;DR: In this article, Major Violation explores academic characteristics of the student-athlete, universities' treatment of studentathletes, and society's role in the academic-athletic dilemma.
Abstract: Many people in today's society expect little more from student-athletes than dunks and touchdowns. The same people often criticise universities for producing students who are better players than readers. It's a dilemma with both students and institutions caught in the middle. Major Violation explores academic characteristics of the student-athlete, universities' treatment of student-athletes, and society's role in the academic-athletic dilemma. It also explores current attempts at reform and their effectiveness. And, it details nine suggestions that will help students take advantage of the many opportunities that intercollegiate athletics were intended to provide.
