TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an apparatus, a program and a method for processing three-dimensional data, wherein point group data obtained by a 3D measurement instrument can be easily processed.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus, a program and a method for processing three-dimensional data, wherein point group data obtained by a three-dimensional measurement instrument can be easily processed. SOLUTION: The three-dimensional data processing apparatus 1 includes a storage part 11, an arithmetic processing part 12, a display part 13, and an input part 14. The arithmetic processing part 12 includes: a distance image generation part 23 for generating a distance image 19 from point group data 5; a spherical surface image generation part 24 for generating a spherical surface image 18 from the point group data 5; and a coordinate calculation part 25 for calculating the three-dimensional coordinate value (x, y, z) of an optional measurement point of a measurement target 6 by using at least the distance image 19. A pixel of pixel coordinates (l, o) on the spherical surface image 18 and a pixel of pixel coordinates (m, n) on the distance image 19 are related to each other at the rate of one to one on a scanning position (i, j) of the three-dimensional measurement instrument 2. TL;DR: This paper studies the procedure to create a hierarchical region-based image representation aiming at generic image analysis in the context of bottom-up segmentation algorithms and, specifically, using the Binary Partition Tree implementation.
Abstract: This paper studies the procedure to create a hierarchical region-based image representation aiming at generic image analysis. This study is carried out in the context of bottom-up segmentation algorithms and, specifically, using the Binary Partition Tree implementation. The different steps necessary to create a hierarchical region-based representation are analyzed; namely, (i) the creation of the initial partition in the hierarchy, which is split into the definition of the initial merging criterion and the proposal of a stopping criterion, and (ii) the merging criteria used to produce the different regions in the final hierarchical representation. For both steps, the proposed approach is assessed and compared with previous existing ones over a large data set using well-established partition-based metrics.

TL;DR: In this article, a linear time algorithm for computing the chessboard distance transform for both pointer-based and linear quadtree representations is given. And comparisons between algorithmic styles for the two representations are made.
Abstract: Linear time algorithms are given for computing the chessboard distance transform for both pointer-based and linear quadtree representations. Comparisons between algorithmic styles for the two representations are made. Both versions of the algorithm consist of a pair of tree traversals.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for determining a distance to an object is described, and an electronic image of the object is captured and displayed on a display device, where the size of the image is determined.
Abstract: A method for determining a distance to an object is described. In the method, a size of the object is determined, and an electronic image of the object is captured and displayed on a display device. The size of the image of the object is determined. The distance to the object is calculated using the size of the object, a focal length of the imaging module, and the size of the image of the object. The distance to the object is then displayed on the display device. An imaging device and graphics controller having range-finding functionality are also described.

TL;DR: In this article, a scale is generated from the stereo disparity and the motion disparity to identify pixels in an image associated with a moving object, and the scale is applied to the motion disparities and the scaled motion disparities.
Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying moving objects from received images are disclosed. Images are received from a stereo image capture device and from a moving image capture device. Distances from the stereo image capture device to points in a captured image are stored in a stereo distance map and distances from the moving image capture device are determined from pairs of images captured by the moving image capture device and stored in a moving distance map. Stereo disparities are determined from distances in the stereo distance map and motion disparities are determined from distances in the moving distance map. A scale is generated from the stereo disparities and the motion disparities. The scale is applied to the motion disparities and the scaled motion disparities and the stereo disparities are used to identify pixels in an image associated with a moving object.
