Abstract: Gamma ray yield functions of (p, αγ) and (p, γ) resonance reactions on semi-thick 19F, 23Na, 24,26Mg and 27Al targets were measured and used to calibrate the accelerating voltage and energy resolution of the new 500 kV heavy ion implanter at Gottingen. The energy spread of the proton beam was found to vary linearly with the accelerating voltage from ΔE(200 keV) = 55 eV fwhm to ΔE(500 keV) = 105 eV; it is made up by a 0.012% high voltage ripple and the Doppler broadening of the resonances due to the thermal motion of the target nuclei. A long term stability of the proton energy of Applications of the accelerator for the remeasurement of some resonance energies and widths and for depth profiling of light implanted ions in metals by the resonance broadening method will be briefly discussed.

Abstract: We report experimental observation of an inverse Doppler shift, in which the frequency of a wave is increased on reflection from a receding boundary. This counterintuitive effect has been produced by reflecting a wave from a moving discontinuity in an electrical transmission line. Doppler shifts produced by this system can be varied in a reproducible manner by electronic control of the transmission line and are typically five orders of magnitude greater than those produced by solid objects with kinematic velocities. Potential applications include the development of tunable and multifrequency radiation sources.

Abstract: An enhancement of the index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption is shown to be possible in an ensemble of phase-coherent atoms (``phaseonium''). A survey of various possible schemes in which coherence is established by certain coherent or incoherent methods is given, and the main results are compared and contrasted. In particular, the influence of processes such as Doppler broadening that degrade coherence is discussed.

Abstract: The organic−inorganic hybrid perovskites methylammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3) and the partially chlorine-substituted mixed halide CH3NH3PbI3−xClx emit strong and broad photoluminescence (PL) around their band gap energy of ∼1.6 eV. However, the nature of the radiative decay channels behind the observed emission and, in particular, the spectral broadening mechanisms are still unclear. Here we investigate these processes for high-quality vapor-deposited films of CH3NH3PbI3−xClx using time- and excitation-energy dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy. We show that the PL spectrum is homogenously broadened with a line width of 103 meV most likely as a consequence of phonon coupling effects. Further analysis reveals that defects or trap states play a minor role in radiative decay channels. In terms of possible lasing applications, the emission spectrum of the perovskite is sufficiently broad to have potential for amplification of light pulses below 100 fs pulse duration.
