TL;DR: In this article, the impact of dredging and dumping on a channel-shoal system in a funnel-shaped basin is investigated using a complex process-based model, in which ebb-and flood-channels and enclosed shoals form morphodynamic units (cells) with their own sediment circulation.
Abstract: For a channel-shoal system in a funnel-shaped basin the impact of dredging and dumping is investigated using a complex process-based model. First, the residual flow and sediment transport circulations are analysed for the channel-shoal pattern, which has emerged after a long-term model simulation. Results are compared to the Western Scheldt estuary, which forms the inspiration for this study. Subsequently, different dredge and dump scenarios are modelled, according to a conceptual model, in which ebb-and flood-channels and enclosed shoals form morphodynamic units (cells) with their own sediment circulation. Model results show that dumping sediment in a channel further reduces the channel depth and induces erosion in the opposite channel, which enhances tilting of the cross-section of the cell and eventually can lead to the degeneration of a multiple channel system into a single channel. The impact of different dredging and dumping cases agrees with results from a stability analysis. This means that this type of model applied to a realistic geometry can potentially be used for better prediction of the impact of human interventions.

TL;DR: In this paper, an examination for the dredging plan under process and two additional plans were performed using the Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Damage Analysis System software (HEC-RAS) for a 50 km long river reach to investigate whether they can recover the designed flooding capacity of the river or just improving it.
Abstract: River
Tigris divides Baghdad, capital of Iraq, in two parts. The reach of the river
within Baghdad is about 60 km long. Many islands and bars are obstructing the
flow of the river within Baghdad. To overcome this problem, dredging operations
started along most of Tigris River inside Baghdad City to remove many islands
and side bars, which reduced the flooding capacity and the efficiency of water
intakes. An examination for the dredging plan under process and two proposed
additional plans was performed using the Hydrologic Engineering Centers River
Analysis System software (HEC-RAS) for a 50 km long river reach to investigate
whether they can recover the designed flooding capacity of the river or just
improving it. Calibration and verification processes were implemented in the
model using observed water levels at Sarai Baghdad gauging station and along
the last 15 km of the river reach. Comparisons of computed water levels were
conducted with those of previous studies and historical data. Some improvement
of flood capacity was achieved based on the recorded data of the last three
decades. Cautions about the water intakes should be considered to maintain
their function with the expected drop in water level due to dredging operations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a wave data base Wave Watch III was compared with a long term wave data-base generated by the ERA40-ECMWF (2003), both local validated.
Abstract: Santos Harbor Area (SHA) in Sao Paulo Coastline (Brazil) is the most important marine cargo transfer terminal in the Southern Hemisphere. A long term relative tidal level variability assessment shows a consistent response to relative sea level rise. A wave data base Wave Watch III was compared with a long term wave data‐base generated by the ERA40‐ECMWF (2003), both local validated. The current bed level of SHA Outer Channel is ‐15.00 m (Chart Datum or, in abbreviation, CD), maintained by dredging. According to the cargo throughput forecast, in 2025, the Access Channel will have to be deepened to level of ‐17.00 m. The feasibility of that choice is discussed from a technical, economical and conceptual navigation point of view in that context. A data set found from a scale model of the whole area of Santos Bay, Estuary and nearby beaches, showed the impact of maritime climate changes upon the coastal area. In the previous researches developed by the authors, it was demonstrated that the wave climate, the tides and tidal currents affect harbor and coastal structures maintenance, beaches stability, tidal inlet, sediment transport, saline intrusion and wetlands. Considering the increasing of the sea hazards and the high values of the infrastructures in that coastline, it is necessary to mitigate the risks. Hence, based on the results obtained by the authors, are highlighted guidelines strategies suggested for Access Channels dimensions, wharves free‐board, jetties dimensions, dredging rates, rigid and flexible littoral defenses and land protection against flooding (including wetlands)

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between fish assemblage structure and pond management and via a comparative study before and after a dredging event, they found that the fish assembly structure was significantly different after the dredging events.
