Abstract: Results of studies for the application of decelerating resistors for improving transient stability on the Arizona Public Service Company 292-mile transmission system from the Four Corners Plant to Phoenix are presented and analyzed. These studies indicate the feasibility of the use of decelerating resistors for overcoming cases of transient stability at a minimum cost. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first investigation of this application in the design of a system.

TL;DR: Considering the controllability and observability of the braking torques of the hub motor, Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), and hydraulic brake for four-wheel drive (4WD) hybrid electric cars, a distributed and self-adaptive vehicle speed estimation algorithm for different braking situations has been proposed by fully utilizing the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) sensor signals and multiple powersource signals.
Abstract: Considering the controllability and observability of the braking torques of the hub motor, Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), and hydraulic brake for four-wheel drive (4WD) hybrid electric cars, a distributed and self-adaptive vehicle speed estimation algorithm for different braking situations has been proposed by fully utilising the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) sensor signals and multiple powersource signals. Firstly, the simulation platform of a 4WD hybrid electric car was established, which integrates an electronic-hydraulic composited braking system model and its control strategy, a nonlinear seven degrees-of-freedom vehicle dynamics model, and the Burckhardt tyre model. Secondly, combining the braking torque signals with the ESP signals, self-adaptive unscented Kalman sub-filter and main-filter adaptable to the observation noise were, respectively, designed. Thirdly, the fusion rules for the sub-filters and master filter were proposed herein, and the estimation results were compared wi...

TL;DR: In this paper, an actuator (110) is operated in accordance with the turn-on and turn-off points to cause the engine (30) to develop the selected braking magnitude.
Abstract: A control for operating an engine (30) in a braking mode of operation includes an actuator (110) engageable with an engine exhaust valve (40). A braking magnitude is selected from a continuous range of braking magnitudes between minimum and maximum levels and turn-on and turn-off points for the actuator (110) are established from the selected braking magnitude. The actuator (110) is operated in accordance with the turn-on and turn-off points to cause the engine (30) to develop the selected braking magnitude.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system for braking a hybrid electric vehicle having an internal combustion engine and a traction motor coupled to a common output shaft, with the vehicle also having an energy storage battery.
Abstract: A method and system for braking a hybrid electric vehicle having an internal combustion engine and a traction motor coupled to a common output shaft, with the vehicle also having an energy storage battery. The method includes monitoring of the vehicle to determine if the vehicle's driver is operating the vehicle in a braking mode and if so, controlling the engine and traction motor so as to provide dynamic braking such that when the traction motor is operated regeneratively, the brake torque produce by the engine is reduced from a maximum contemporaneous brake torque value.
