TL;DR: Intensive Voice Therapy based on LSVT principles was effective in improving the acoustic parameters of voice, speech articulation, voice handicap index, and speech intelligibility, and generally, improving verbal communication which has the positive impact on the quality of patient’s life.
Abstract: Purpose: Wilson disease is a rare metabolic disorder and damaged areas of the brain in this disease are related to the coordination of movements. Therefore, the disease is considered as a motor disorder. Dysarthria is the most common speech problem in these patients. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of intensive voice therapy based on principles of LSVT on improvement of articulation skills and voice features and finally, its impacts on speech intelligibility as well as voice handicap index in patients with Wilson. Methods: A 23-year-old female was diagnosed with Wilson's disease. Acoustic assessment of voice, speech articulation, speech intelligibility, and voice handicap index were performed before and after Intensive Voice Therapy based on the LSVT principles.bn Results: After the treatment, significant increases in acoustic parameters of voice, speech articulation and also speech intelligibility were observed which consequently resulted in a considerable reduction of voice handicap index (VHI). Conclusion: Intensive Voice Therapy based on LSVT principles was effective in improving the acoustic parameters of voice, speech articulation, voice handicap index, and speech intelligibility, and generally, improving verbal communication which has the positive impact on the quality of patient’s life.

TL;DR: Analysis of unfamiliar and familiar listener attitudes towards the use of combined alphabet-topic cues and a control condition associated with the speech of three individuals with severe mixed dysarthria suggests that augmentative and alternative communication strategies providing frequent and specific cues regarding the content and constituent words of a message may enhance the attitudes of listeners.
Abstract: This study examined unfamiliar and familiar listener attitudes towards the use of combined alphabet-topic cues and a control condition (habitual speech with no cues) associated with the speech of three individuals with severe mixed dysarthria. Two listener groups (N = 36) were shown experimentally imposed visual images of the combined alphabet-topic cue strategy in conjunction with recorded auditory presentations with the habitual speech of three individuals with mixed dysarthria. Using a 7-point Likert scale, listeners were asked to rate how effective they thought the speakers communicated; how comfortable they were communicating with the speakers; and how persistent they were in trying to understand the speakers. The results revealed that there were no significant differences in the attitude ratings of familiar listeners as compared to unfamiliar listeners. However, results revealed that rating of communicative effectiveness, comfort communicating with speakers and listener persistence were each more favourable when using the combined cue condition than purely habitual speech. The results suggest that augmentative and alternative communication strategies providing frequent and specific cues regarding the content and constituent words of a message may enhance the attitudes of listeners.

TL;DR: In this paper, a qualificatif "hypokinétique" privilégie is defined for the motricité consécutive au syndrome akinéto-rigide de la maladie de Parkinson.
