Abstract: In writing this article I was asked to think about future trends and developments in two very different and geographically distant parts of the world Europe and East Asia. Context associated with specific countries and regions related cultural and historical features as well as local events are crucial to understanding how work on violence against women has already developed and if we are to make any predictions for the future. Also of importance are transnational links and global or international concerns that may influence or affect work on violence against women in specific countries. However to examine these issues in any depth or with coverage of the many and varied East Asian and European contexts would of course be a huge task not possible in an article. Thus I will indeed consider some general trends and issues but also limit my discussion and use of examples to a smaller number of countries. My own research has tended to focus on the United Kingdom Denmark and China examining domestic violence links between abuse of women and abuse of children and prostitution. These areas and issues inform some of the key areas that I have chosen for discussion which are: definitions in context transnational and global influences and links between violence to women and maltreatment of children. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarized the comprehensive achievements of deformation analysis, igneous geochronology, tomography and other field observations in the East Asian Continental Margin in recent decade, briefly discussing the pre-Yanshanian final assembly of blocks and the formation of the unified continental margin in China, and mainly focusing on the review of Jurassic and Cretaceous geological processes.
Abstract: The Mesozoic impact to the North China and the South China blocks in the East Asian Continental Margin by the West Pacific subduction processes and deep processes, the tectonic, magmatic mineralization and geomorphic evolutionary trends show some similarities, but there are also significant differences beween them, the dynamic mechanism is generally believed to be caused by the Paleo-Pacific Plate subduction. But how they are related is a long-term unresolved question as a conundrum and a focus of geological researches, and a huge controversy is still remained. This paper systematically summarizes the comprehensive achievements of deformation analysis, igneous geochronology, tomography and other field observations in the East Asian Continental Margin in recent decade, briefly discussing the pre-Yanshanian final assembly of blocks and the formation of the unified continental margin in China, and mainly focusing on the review of Jurassic and Cretaceous geological processes in the East Asian Ocean-Continent Connection Zone in the Yanshanian period. The temporal and spatial evolution of structural propagation, age zonation and migration of igneous rocks and huge tectono-morphological inversion in the Earth surface system, combined with deep processes are jointly to put forward: the destruction of the North China Craton was mainly affected by the westard early-stage layerred rollback, delamination and thinning of the deep lithosphere, resulting in early Yanshanian westward migration of tectonism and magmatism following the middle-stage multiple-directional delamination and the late-stage eastward withdrawal of delamination; coevally, the combined effect of the closure of the Okhotsk Ocean to the north and the subduction of the Bangong-Co-Nujiang Ocean to the south made the East Asian Ocean-Continent Connection Zone under the tectonic setting of overall compression, the asthenosphere upwelling at depth continued an eastward migration to drive lithosphere continuously eastward and periodical, alternative extension and compression. The South China Block experienced the westward flat subduction at early stage, resulting in the westward propagation of deformation and magmatism, following the late two-stage delamination to induce the eastward tectono-magmatism. In summary, the tectono-magmatic differences between the North China and South China blocks are caused by their difference of the deep mantle processes and the East Asian plate superconvergence.

TL;DR: The authors empirically examined how US movies of various genres, presumably with content of varying levels of cultural specificity, perform in seven East Asian countries and the world market at large, and whether audiences in East Asia exhibit similar patterns of reception for Hollywood movies of different genres.
Abstract: Cultural differences are likely to affect the extent to which and the ways in which audiences appreciate foreign media products. Not all media products travel across cultural and national boundaries equally successfully. When media contents are highly culturally specific, a high level of relative cultural discount and a loss in cross-culture performance predictability are likely to result. Based on these arguments, this study empirically examines: (1) how US movies of various genres, presumably with content of varying levels of cultural specificity, perform in seven East Asian countries and the world market at large, and (2) whether audiences in East Asia exhibit similar patterns of reception for Hollywood movies of different genres. With a data set of 489 US movies between 2002 and 2006, the analysis shows that there are indeed commonalities both among the East Asian countries and between East Asia and the world at large in terms of how certain movie genres are received at the box office. The theoretical...

TL;DR: This article argued that too much attention is paid to the time spent in school, and too little is paid on the quality of the schools and the types of skills developed there. But they also pointed out that the average person in Latin America is only about two and a half times as prosperous as in East Asia.
Abstract: With per-capita gross domestic product (GDP) growing by an average of 4.5% annually since 1960, people in East Asia are about nine times as prosperous as two generations ago. By contrast, the average person in Latin America is only about two and a half times as prosperous. Over the past quarter-century, both theoretical and empirical analyses of possible drivers of the different growth rates seen around the world invariably assign an important role to human capital ( 1 – 4 ). This has led to development policies focused on increasing enrollment and retention in schools. We argue, however, that too much attention is paid to the time spent in school, and too little is paid to the quality of the schools and the types of skills developed there.
