Abstract: The sharpness of a digital image is enhanced by an edge enhancement process in which the edge adjustment range is adjusted. The image processing apparatus of the present invention determines the edge enhancement range by calculation using a weighting matrix. Specifically, data of a target pixel and the surrounding pixels are calculated using a weighting matrix selected by a weighting selection means, and the edge enhancement range is determined by comparing this calculated value to a specific threshold value. The data of pixels within the enhancement range are then subjected to the edge enhancement process.

Abstract: We describe and claim an edge enhancement system and method. The edge enhancement system includes an edge enhancement circuit to enhance a portion of image data with enhancement data determined from the image data, and a panel to display the enhanced image data. The edge enhancement circuit includes a receiver to receive the image data, a determining circuit to determine enhancement data from the image data, and an enhancing circuit to enhance a portion of the image data with the enhancement data. In an embodiment, the enhancing circuit mathematically manipulates a portion of the image data with the enhancement data. In another embodiment, the enhancing circuit replaces a portion of the image data with the enhancement data.

Abstract: A novel methodology to integrate edge feature and edge-spatial feature of an image is proposed. The edge feature is described by edge histogram of image, the edge-spatial feature is described by spatial distribution of pixels of identical edge value in the image. Experimental results show that the method can achieve better retrieval performance, especially for color natural images with more complex spatial layout.

Abstract: The invention discloses an image processing method and apparatus. An image comprises n image blocks. The method comprises the steps of judging whether an input image block is an edge of the image or not; when the image block is determined to be the edge of the image, performing edge enhancement processing on the image block to obtain edge enhancement intensity information of the image block; according to a preset mapping relationship between the edge enhancement intensity information and color suppression intensity, judging an interval, where the edge enhancement intensity information is located, in the preset mapping relationship between the edge enhancement intensity information and the color suppression intensity; according to the interval, selecting the color suppression intensity of the image block; and performing color suppression processing on the chromaticity of the image block by using the color suppression intensity, thereby obtaining a chromaticity value of the image block subjected to the color suppression processing. By adopting the scheme, the image quality can be improved while the calculation amount of image processing is reduced, and the cost is reduced.
