TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a new means of creating a binary phase only 1/f joint transform correlator using a ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator using a checkerboard phase encoded input.
Abstract: We present a new means of creating a binary phase only 1/f joint transform correlator using a ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator. By using the two-pass technique of the 1/f JTC in combination with a binary phase FLM SLM it is possible to build a mechanically robust correlator with a correlation rate in excess of 2 kHz. By using a checkerboard phase encoded input, it is possible to use the FLC SLM as a binary phase modulator while also avoiding the problem of CCD camera saturation due to zero order. An edge enhancement algorithm is then used on the captured image to produce a suitable image for the second pass through the correlator. The algorithm has been chosen to produce a near perfect binary phase image which results in a correlation plane with greatly suppressed zero order (or dc terms).

TL;DR: Prewitt and Homogeneity algorithms can be recommended as useful detection tools in edge detection and better than Sobel algorithm in 2D gray-scale synthesis and real images in Jordan using C# programming language.
Abstract: Edge detection considered as very important and fundamental tool in image processing. An image edge is a very sensitive place where the image information and details mostly placed on it. Different filters were used to detect and enhance these edges to improve the sharpness and raising the image clarity. The significance of this paper comes from the study, compare and evaluate the effects of three well-known edge detection techniques in a spatial domain, where this evaluation was performed using both subjective and objective manner to find out the best edge detection algorithm. The Sobel, Homogeneity and Prewitt algorithms were used on 2D gray-scale synthesis and real images in Jordan using C# programming language. According to the comparative results obtained using the three techniques, it was clearly found that Prewitt and Homogeneity algorithms performance were better than Sobel algorithm. Therefore, Prewitt and Homogeneity algorithms can be recommended as useful detection tools in edge detection.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for detecting a motion event based on images was proposed, where the system acquires a first image and a comparison image, and generates a first edge image and an image of a comparison edge based on the image and the comparison image.
Abstract: A system for detecting a motion event based on images. The system acquires a first image and a comparison image, and generates a first edge image and a comparison edge image based on the first image and the comparison image. The system also determines the difference between the first edge image and the comparison edge image. The system indicates a motion event if the difference between the first edge image and the comparison edge image meets or exceeds a threshold.

TL;DR: A new method for edge detection of polarimetric SAR images is proposed based on the curvelet transform and the Duda operator, a multi-scale representation suited for edge enhancement, which is applied to PISAR images to illustrate its effectiveness.
Abstract: A new method for edge detection of polarimetric SAR images is proposed based on the curvelet transform and the Duda operator in this paper. The detection of edge features from SAR images is complicated by the presence of speckle. Firstly, a despeckled polarimetric SAR image is derived by the Polarimetric Whitening Filter (PWF), and then the image is filtered by Lee's method with eight edge-aligned windows to preserve the edge sharpness. The curvelet transform which is a multi-scale representation suited for edge enhancement is applied to estimate the area including edges approximately. Then the Duda operator, a contrast ratio edge detector to extract linear features, is used to give the positions of the edges precisely. The proposed method is applied to PISAR images to illustrate its effectiveness. (4 pages)

TL;DR: The scheme proposed in this paper performs significantly better than previous isolated methods (edge detector, edge filter and so on) so that it can obtain the integral edge information to further analyze the roundness, perimeter and number of cells.
Abstract: Considering that medical images play a crucial role in today's biomedical research, it is more and more important to extract the edges of cell images. However, there some phenomena of the overlapping and discontinuity of edges exist, so it is more difficult to solve the problems. In view of it, we have employed a novel scheme to integrate edge detection, edge thinning and edge linking by use of directional information. The scheme proposed in this paper performs significantly better than previous isolated methods (edge detector, edge filter and so on) so that we can obtain the integral edge information to further analyze the roundness, perimeter and number of cells. In a word, our scheme is focused on directional information from beginning to end. The experiments on some cell images indicate that our scheme achieves high quality and it is also applicable to similar images.
