TL;DR: In this article, a data compression method for increasing a reduction ratio, while keeping a sufficient characteristic amount, to seek speeding up of processing, was provided for compressing image data in pattern model positioning in image processing.
Abstract: There is provided a data compression method for increasing a reduction ratio, while keeping a sufficient characteristic amount, to seek speeding up of processing, the method being for compressing image data in pattern model positioning in image processing of searching out of an image to be searched and positioning a pattern model corresponding to a pre-registered image. The method includes the steps of: computing an edge strength image having edge strength information and an edge angle image having edge angle information with respect to each pixel constituting an image; transforming the edge angle image of each pixel into an edge angle bit image expressed by an edge angle bit indicating an angle with a pre-defined fixed width; and compressing the edge angle bit image to create an edge angle bit reduced image by taking a sum with respect to each edge angle bit.

TL;DR: Distinct features of the proposed approach include efficiently smoothing halftone patterns in large homogeneous areas, additional edge enhancement capability to recover the edge quality, and an excellent PSNR performance with only local integer operations and a small memory buffer.

01 Jan 2013TL;DR: The inter-channel correlation introduced by color image interpolation is revealed, and a metric is constructed to measure these correlations, which are useful in distinguishing the original and contrast enhanced images.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel forensic method of exposing cut-and-paste image forgery through detecting contrast enhancement is proposed. We reveal the inter-channel correlation introduced by color image interpolation, and show how a linear or nonlinear contrast enhancement can disturb this natural inter-channel dependency. We then construct a metric to measure these correlations, which are useful in distinguishing the original and contrast enhanced images. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is experimentally validated on natural color images captured by commercial cameras. Finally, its robustness against some anti-forensic algorithms is also discussed.

TL;DR: The intent is to provide an extremely low bandwidth representation for images, preserving “intelligible” image content but not necessarily image quality, which has led to an image transformation involving edge enhancement, detection, line thinning, and polygonal splining which is termed thepolygonal transformation.
Abstract: A method for the efficient coding of line drawings is discussed. The intent is to provide an extremely low bandwidth representation for images, preserving “intelligible” image content but not necessarily image quality. This has led to an image transformation involving edge enhancement, detection, line thinning, and polygonal splining which is termed the polygonal transformation . The graph-like image which results from this transformatiom is coded quite efficiently by using vectorgraph coding , which codes a series of vectors in a manner similar to that used in many computer graphics systems. This technique has been applied to a body of images of American Sign Language and the results are encouraging.
