TL;DR: In this paper, a multiscale characterization of carbonate pore structure based on mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) measurements, X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) 3D rock images, and well logs is presented.
Abstract: Carbonate formations consist of a wide range of pore types with different shapes, pore-throat sizes, and varying levels of pore-network connectivity. Such heterogeneous pore-network properties affect the fluid flow in the formation. However, characterizing pore-network properties (e.g., effective porosity and permeability) in carbonate formations is challenging due to the heterogeneity at different scales and complex pore structure of carbonate rocks. We have developed an integrated technique for multiscale characterization of carbonate pore structure based on mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) measurements, X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) 3D rock images, and well logs. We have determined pore types based on the pore-throat radius distributions obtained from MICP measurements. We developed a new method for improved assessment of effective porosity and permeability in the well-log domain using pore-scale numerical simulations of fluid flow and electric current flow in 3D micro-C...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a device for measuring the effective porosity of the permeable concrete realized by the utility model, which belongs to a transparent rectangular metering tube and has the characteristics of simple structure, short realized test period, convenient operation, high speed, capability of directly reading the results, high measuring precision and the like.
Abstract: The utility model provides a device for measuring the effective porosity of permeable concrete, which belongs to a transparent rectangular metering tube. The net dimension after the length and the width of the cross section of the metering tube deduct the wall thickness is 270mm*250mm, the height is greater than 200mm, scales capable of being directly read the effective porosity are marked on the side surface of the metering tube, and the range of the scales is between 0 and 100 percent. The device for measuring the effective porosity of the permeable concrete realized by the utility model has the characteristics of simple structure, short realized test period, convenient operation, high speed, capability of directly reading the results, high measuring precision and the like.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an effective porosity tester for undisturbed soil, which consists of a water supply tank, a water head regulation component, a seepage unit, a liquid equal division unit and a detection unit.
Abstract: The invention relates to an effective porosity tester for undisturbed soil. The effective porosity tester comprises a water supply tank, a water head regulation component, a seepage unit, a liquid equal-division unit and a detection unit, wherein a water supply unit is communicated with the seepage unit through the liquid equal-division unit. According to the effective porosity tester for the undisturbed soil, the effective porosity of rock soil can be tested, the effective porosity of an undisturbed soil test sample can be obtained by a solute replacement method, and the seepage unit can be used for sampling the undisturbed soil test sample; the effective porosity tester for the undisturbed soil is simple in structure, higher in effective porosity testing accuracy and good in application potential, and can be used for helping a student to understand a difference between the effective porosity and overall porosity as a teaching apparatus in a laboratory in hydrogeological researches, and a testing process is convenient; during practical production, the effective porosity tester for the undisturbed soil can be used for testing the effective porosity of the test sample, and a parameter testing experimental device is provided for further researches such as seawater infiltration, leakage recharge, submerged transport and in-situ groundwater remediation on solute transport.

TL;DR: In this paper, a 2D reservoir model of the Mishrif Formation was constructed to explain the distribution of facies and petrophysical properties (effective porosity and water saturation) by using RockWorks software.
Abstract: The Middle Cenomanian-Early Turonian Mishrif Formation includes important carbonate reservoirs in Iraq and some other surrounding countries due to their high reservoir quality and wide geological extension. The 2D models of this study for facies, effective porosity and water saturation indicate the vertical and lateral heterogeneity of the Mishrif Formation reservoir properties in the Majnoon oil field. Construction of 2D reservoir model of the Mishrif Formation to explain the distribution of facies and petrophysical properties (effective porosity and water saturation) by using RockWorks software. The increase of effective porosity is attributed to the presence of shoal facies. The high water saturation is attributed to the existence of restricted marine facies or shallow open marine facies.Maximum values of hydrocarbon saturation is predicted to occur towards the crestal parts of the field.
