TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an approach for coupling communication signal modulated radio frequency signals between an electrical power distribution line and the electrical power wiring at a customer's premises which includes a first transceiver for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic energy is inductively coupled to the distribution line.
Abstract: Apparatus for coupling communication signal modulated radio frequency signals between an electrical power distribution line and the electrical power wiring at a customer's premises which includes a first transceiver for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic energy is inductively coupled to the distribution line and a second transceiver for receiving electromagnetic energy from, and transmitting electromagnetic energy to, the first transceiver. The second transceiver is coupled to the customer's power wiring to receive communication signals from, and to supply communication signals to, the customer's power wiring. The electrical power for the first transceiver can be supplied by inductive coupling to the power line and/or a battery, the battery being a back-up source when both inductive coupling and a battery are present.

TL;DR: In this paper, a project undertaken by the Electric Power Research Institute (RP 3022-7) as part of its research on Flexible AC Transmission is described, which avoids dependence on temperature measurement, instead, calculating critical equipment component temperatures based solely on real-time weather and electrical current.
Abstract: ANSI standards for power equipment, and a vast store of technical literature, describe various methods by which thermal ratings may be adjusted if actual weather conditions are known or if the "overload" is to be applied for a limited period of time. These methods have been given various names including dynamic thermal rating, on-line rating, and dynamic ratings to describe the process of adjusting thermal ratings of power equipment for actual weather conditions and actual electrical load patterns. This paper discusses in detail a project undertaken by the Electric Power Research Institute (RP 3022-7) as part of its research on Flexible AC Transmission. This project avoids dependence on temperature measurement, instead, calculating critical equipment component temperatures based solely on real-time weather and electrical current. Inexpensive, commercially available weather stations, digital data loggers, and IBM-compatible PC computers are combined with sophisticated thermal algorithms to yield a portable, flexible, instrumentation method which can rate several transmission circuits simultaneously, including underground cable, overhead lines, power transformers, current transformers, switches, bus, line traps, and circuit breakers. Useable increases of 5% to 15% in the thermal capacity of transmission equipment circuits result.

TL;DR: An electric vehicle charging station for recharging an electric vehicle as discussed by the authors has a base unit with a control box electrically coupled to an electrical power line, and a retractable support arm assembly with an electrical conductor and an electrical connector coupled thereto for movement between a retracted position and an extended position.
Abstract: An electric vehicle charging station for recharging an electric vehicle. The electric vehicle charging station has a base unit with a control box electrically coupled to an electrical power line, and a retractable support arm assembly with an electrical conductor and an electrical connector coupled thereto for movement between a retracted position and an extended position. The support arm assembly includes various support arms and/or linkages which provide limited degrees of vertical movement and horizontal movement.

TL;DR: In this paper, a regenerator for detecting, remodulation, and retransmission of a digital data signal propagated in the differential mode over a pair of bundle conductors (12,16) of a power line is described.
Abstract: A regenerator (10) for providing detection, remodulation, and retransmission of a digital data signal (20) propagated in the differential mode over a pair of bundle conductors (12,16) of a power line. The electric power signal, propagated in the common mode over the same bundle conductors, is conducted through the regenerator and provides a power supply voltage (V.) for the regenerator electronics. A series of electrical traps (38, 40, 42, 44) prevent the electric power signal from being conducted into that portion of the regenerator utilized for processing of the data signal. The regenerator also includes bypass switches for bypassing the regenerator electronics when a power supply voltage sufficient to operate the electronics is unavailable.
