TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for detecting the occurrence of an arc condition in the socket by analyzing the RF noise on the channels of the communication spectrum used by the meter to communicate within its metering system.
Abstract: When a poor meter to socket connection occurs, there is the potential for arcing to develop which can result in a hot socket and a fire. Disclosed herein are methods for a meter to detect the occurrence of an arc condition in the socket by analyzing the RF noise on the channels of the communication spectrum used by the meter to communicate within its metering system. For example, by keeping a record of the normal background noise and looking for a broadband increase in the noise on all channels, arc detection can be achieved. Meter quantities such as temperature, current, voltage, and harmonic content may also be used in a standalone manner or in combination with broadband RF noise to detect an arc condition. A disconnect switch within the meter can be opened to remove the arc fault.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and methods for identifying and targeting power outages are provided, where a particular electric meter can select a suitable communication node of a neighboring electric meter with which it can communicate.
Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying and targeting power outages are provided. Electric meters of a system receive electric power from power distribution equipment in a power distribution network and information that identifies the respective power distribution equipment from which the meters receive electric power. Communication nodes are associated with electric meters and receive, from neighboring communication nodes, information identifying each respective neighboring communication node and the information identifying the power distribution equipment from which respective electric meters, associated with neighboring communication nodes, receive electric power. A communication node of a particular electric meter can select a suitable communication node of a neighboring electric meter with which it can communicate. When the particular electric meter experiences a loss in power, it can then transmit an immediate regarding the loss in power to the selected communication node.

TL;DR: In this paper, a consumer node includes a local energy meter, which can aggregate the grid network and local operation conditions inputs with power demand for a local load coupled to the consumer side of the point of common coupling monitored by the energy meter.
Abstract: Data aggregation enables a local control response at a consumer node of a distributed grid network. A consumer node includes a local energy meter. The meter receives multiple inputs indicating an electrical condition of the grid network and local operating conditions. The meter can aggregate the grid network and local operation conditions inputs with power demand for a local load coupled to the consumer side of the point of common coupling monitored by the energy meter. The energy meter calculates a mix of real and reactive power to output from a local energy source, based on the aggregated data. A local power converter outputs the calculated power from the local energy source.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model and a method for automatically identifying a switchhouse user change relationship was proposed, which consists of a sending module and a receiving module, where the sending module is arranged at the lowvoltage outgoing line side of the to-be-detected distribution transformer and connected with a distribution transformer meter by virtue of RS 485 and sends the meter number in the mode of carrier wave.
Abstract: The invention discloses a model and a method for automatically identifying a switchhouse user change relationship. The model comprises a sending module and a receiving module. The sending module is arranged at the low-voltage outgoing line side of the to-be-detected distribution transformer and connected with a distribution transformer meter by virtue of RS 485, reads the number of the distribution transformer meter and sends the meter number in the mode of carrier wave; the receiving module is arranged near a collection terminal and connected with the collection terminal by virtue of RS485 and receives and stores the meter number sent by the sending module. The method comprises the following steps that: an electricity consumption information collecting master station reads the meter number which is sent by the sending module and received and stored by the receiving module, establishes a comparison relationship between the collection terminal and the distribution transformer, matches and calculates the switchhouse user change relationship according to the electricity meter relationship of the collection terminal to obtain preliminary identification results, calculates line loss rate per day or per month of the switchhouse according to the preliminary identification results and verifies the correctness of the identification results. The model and the method can automatically clear up subordination relations of low-voltage switchhouse user change and improve the correctness of user change files in electricity marketing systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an approach to ensure reliable electricity meter data recordation and maintenance during ongoing operation and any power failure, which is based on decreases in a voltage associated with the meter metrology board or a storage capacitor, while clearance for normal mode depends on both such voltages passing testing for minimum values.
Abstract: Apparatus and methodology (entire Fig. 4) ensure reliable electricity meter data recordation and maintenance during ongoing operation and any power failure. During normal operations, data committed to memory is immediately read to determine write success. Upon detection of any power failure while monitoring operating power, a reset procedure is entered that ensures provision of reliable initialization data upon restart of the metering operation. Power failure detection may be based on decreases in a voltage associated with the meter metrology board or a storage capacitor, while clearance for normal mode (i.e., after a power failure, Figure 4, step 98) depends on both such voltages passing testing for minimum values. Such combined approach provides a hysteresis effect, for less sensitivity to noise and some adverse AC line conditions. So-called dynamic data (energy flow and amount) is collected for storage by monitoring an interface between the metrology components of the meter and a meter register.
