Abstract: At present, illegal usage of electricity is a serious problem facing the power industry in many countries. An efficacious and worthwhile solution to counteract this problem can be realized by using: a) already existing electrical network for communication i.e. PLC(Power Line communication) b) smart metering system. In the prototype of detection system presented in this paper, test signal at high frequency is transmitted through the network and software at supplier's end compares data with reference data. Based on the outcome of this comparison, it can remotely be detected if there is any illegal electricity usage or not. The study documented in this paper puts forward a new and unprecedented current-based technique to tackle the problem of illegal electricity usage. This paper reveals the existence of very small line current during the detection test which proves to be the key to unlock the problem of illegal electricity usage detection.

Abstract: This paper introduces the design and implementation of a Wi-Fi wireless meter reading system. The design of management software and wireless terminal including hardware and embedded software are introduced in detail. ARM9 and Linux are adopted for the implementation of wireless terminal. The communication between wireless terminal and management software is realized by the program based on Winsock. Access2003 is used for the storage of information. Smart Message Language (SML Protocol) is used to design the data structure aiming to make data communication maximally simple and suitable for implementation in low-power embedded systems and solve the communication problem between different equipment. A Wi-Fi network experiment system including a intelligent meter, a wireless terminal, an access point and the management software is constructed to test the performance of the wireless meter reading system and the result shows that the meter data can be correctly received and updated every two seconds which indicates that the system has good communication performance and reaches the purpose of meter reading, efficiently solving the low safety and efficiency problems of traditional meter reading

Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic calibrating and compensating method of a diode-type microwave power probe. An automatic testing method is implemented by utilizing a main control computer control signal source, a standard power meter, a program control high-low temperature experiment box, a program control radio frequency multi-way switch and a tested power meter or a power analyzer (connected with a tested power probe). According to the method, the automatic testing on the influence characteristics of input power, input frequency and ambient temperature on diode detection is realized.

Abstract: Smart meter is an electronic device that measures the energy consumption by different time intervals, this time interval may be in minutes, hours, days or months. The proposed technology collects the data from meter and transfer that data to central database for storing data, analyzing and also monitoring the safety related issues. Moreover, it also includes the module which has provision of on demand units loading facility from the energy provider company by just sending a request SMS. The proposed design has been first implemented in software and then a prototype model has been developed, which communicates with the energy service provider for the consumed energy data through GSM network. The purpose of this paper is to present theory and implementation related to remote monitoring and controlling of the energy meter by using GSM architecture. This GSM based system enables the electricity department to get the meter readings regularly while avoiding manual meter reading. The work also enables prepaid billing, electricity management, energy saving and implements a mechanism for electricity theft detection.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an operating system based energy meter software online upgrade method. The method comprises: firstly executing handshake process upgrade; then carrying out security verification; carrying out program transmission, program check, program curing and program loading; and finally carrying out upgrade confirmation. According to an operating system based energy meter software architecture and an online upgrade method thereof disclosed by the present invention, requirements of both reliability and flexibility are taken into account, and a legal metrology module is processed independently, so that it is ensured that core metering functions are not affected by update and failure of other modules; and through software online upgrade, energy meter software online update can be implemented in a facilitated manner, and during non-legal metrology relevant software upgrading, the correct operation of metering functions are not affected, so that based on ensuring the reliability, flexibility of use of the energy meter is greatly improved.
