TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a wireless networking method of an electric power meter reading system and an EPM reading device system, which comprises the following steps of dividing the EPM read system into a plurality of clusters according to the field intensity distribution of each node in the reading system, where the cluster head node is used for managing routing information of the cluster member node.
Abstract: The invention provides a wireless networking method of an electric power meter reading system and an electric power meter reading device system. The method comprises the following steps of dividing the electric power meter reading system into a plurality of clusters according to the field intensity distribution of each node in the electric power meter reading system, wherein each node in the electric power meter reading system is an electric meter; determining a cluster head node and at least one cluster member node in each cluster, wherein the cluster head node is used for managing routing information of the cluster member node and transmitting the routing information variation of the cluster member node to a concentrator. By adopting the wireless networking method and the electric power meter reading device system, the technical problems in the prior art that more time is consumed for networking and routing update because the routing information of all nodes in the system is managed by the concentrator can be solved, and a technical effect of shortening the networking and route updating time can be realized.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for operating an electronic electric meter (100) having current (104) and voltage sensors (106) configured to generate measurements of current and voltage, respectively.
Abstract: The present invention, in one embodiment, is a method for operating an electronic electric meter (100) having current (104) and voltage sensors (106) configured to generate measurements of current and voltage, respectively; a microcomputer (114) coupled to the current (104) and voltage sensors (106) and having on-chip masked read only memory (ROM) (120); and a nonvolatile, alterable memory (118) coupled to the microcomputer (114). The method includes steps of: storing vectors pointing to program portions of the ROM in the non-volatile memory; and using the stored vectors to operate the microcomputer to execute the program portions stored in the ROM to control operation of the meter (100).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare postpaid and prepaid meter regimes in Unguja, Tanzania, and find that the prepaid meter becomes reified with its automated monitoring and measurement mechanism, rendering the once-familiar meter reader obsolete, and shutting off the flow of electricity as soon as the customer's “units” have run down.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a prepaid energy meter that carries a unique identification number such as the consumer's phone number which may be encrypted into the memory of the microcontroller.
Abstract: Many households indulge in different forms of electricity theft and illegal tampering of electric metering devices. These lead to distribution system faults and overload as well as loss of revenue by the distribution companies, this paper envisages the utilization of the global system for mobile communication (GSM) into the prepaid energy meter for increased generation of revenue in developing countries like Nigeria. The proposed meter is set to carry a unique identification number such as the consumer's phone number which may be encrypted into the memory of the microcontroller. Electricity theft is being detected as the GSM module sends message to the distribution company. Revenue generated can be increased through the use of the proposed meter as unaccountability by utility workers and billing irregularities are eliminated. The results obtained from the simulation shows that immediately an illegal load is connected to the utility system either within the residential meter jurisdiction or otherwise stated, the GSM module alerts the utility company no matter how small the illegal load is. TL;DR: Experimental results show the exactitude of the measurements made using the developed smart device, which is based on a single phase multifunction energy meter manufactured by Analog Devices (ADE7753).
Abstract: This paper presents a microdevice for monitoring, control and management of electric loads at home. The key idea is to compact the electronic design as much as possible in order to install it inside a Schuko socket. Moreover, the electronic Schuko socket (electronic microdevice + Schuko socket) has the feature of communicating with a central unit and with other microdevices over the existing powerlines. Using the existing power lines, the proposed device can be installed in new buildings or in old ones. The main use of this device is to monitor, control and manage electric loads to save energy and prevent accidents produced by different kind of devices (e.g., iron) used in domestic tasks. The developed smart device is based on a single phase multifunction energy meter manufactured by Analog Devices (ADE7753) to measure the consumption of electrical energy and then to transmit it using a serial interface. To provide current measurement information to the ADE7753, an ultra flat SMD open loop integrated circuit current transducer based on the Hall effect principle manufactured by Lem (FHS-40P/SP600) has been used. Moreover, each smart device has a PL-3120 smart transceiver manufactured by LonWorks to execute the user's program, to communicate with the ADE7753 via serial interface and to transmit information to the central unit via powerline communication. Experimental results show the exactitude of the measurements made using the developed smart device.
