Abstract: The traditional method of manual electric meter reading is very tedious and is prone to lot of errors and has a lot of disadvantages Some of these disadvantages include low efficiency, man power consuming The existing methods of Automatic Meter Reading are based on measuring the electric impulse of the sensor This is prone to wrong counting of the impulses which leads to faulty meter reading And so a better option is to fit a image acquisition device like camera in front of the meter that will take realtime pictures of the meter readings This picture is then processed, segmented and the individual digits are recognized using unsupervised feature learning technique-Support Vector Machine The advantages of this method is that it can generalize over the large degree of variation between styles and recognition rules can be constructed by example This highly efficient classifier is used for both detection and recognition of these digits

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-intruding-type household-used electric load decomposition method and an apparatus are presented, which can effectively guide changes of users' behaviors of using electricity, so that intelligentization of household energy saving plans can be promoted.
Abstract: The invention discloses a non-intruding-type household-used electric load decomposition method and an apparatus. According to the non-intruding-type electric load decomposition method based on a system fitting algorithm, a household intelligent electric meter acquires electric appliance load data, and an optimal fitting algorithm obtains various optimal parameters, and finally decomposition of electrical loads can be realized. The starting time, the operation time and an operation mode of electric appliances can be accurately calculated, and accurate decomposition can be carried out on conditions of usage of electric appliances of a same kind. The electric load decomposition of the electrical appliances can be realized, and load information of each household electrical appliance can be obtained. Results of load decomposition can effectively guide changes of users' behaviors of using electricity, so that intelligentization of household energy saving plans can be promoted, and simultaneously data supports can be provided for electric power departments in the formulating of corresponding demand side management, and the household use of electricity changes is enabled to change towards a direction of being higher in energy saving and efficient degrees.

TL;DR: A comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the electricity theft issue can be found in this paper , where the authors systematically survey all existing detection methods up to date, which is classified into machine learning-and measurement mismatch-based methods.
Abstract: For accommodating rapidly increasing power demands, power systems are transitioning from analog systems to systems with increasing digital control and communications. Although this modernization brings many far-reaching benefits, the hardware and software newly incorporated into the power systems also incur many vulnerabilities. By taking advantage of these vulnerabilities, adversaries can launch various cyber/physical attacks to tamper with electricity meter readings, i.e., to steal electricity. It is reported that total worldwide annual economic losses caused by electricity theft reached up to almost one hundred billion dollars in recent years. With methods to tamper with meter readings becoming more versatile, secret, and flexible, electricity theft tends to get even more serious in modernized power systems. For preventing adversaries from stealing electricity, researchers have done a lot of works. Although some related surveys on these works exist, they are not updated or just discuss electricity theft in a specific region. This survey aims to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the electricity theft issue. After investigating how adversaries tamper with meter readings, we systematically survey all existing detection methods up to date, which is classified into machine learning- and measurement mismatch-based methods. Adverse effects and political and socioeconomic factors of electricity theft are also provided. This survey can help relevant researchers to shape future research directions, especially in the area of developing new effective electricity theft detection methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an apparatus and method for energy management of electric devices, which individually displays various pieces of energy related information, such as consumption time, power consumption amount, current electricity rate and future electricity rate, in an apparatus provided to each electric device and controls the presence of operation of an individual electric device.
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for energy management of electric devices, which individually displays various pieces of energy related information, such as consumption time, power consumption amount, current electricity rate and future electricity rate, in an apparatus provided to each electric device and controls the presence of operation of an individual electric device so as to make more effective use of limited energy resources in commercialized smart grid and smart meter technologies in which the energy price is changed depending on time. To this end, the operating state of each of the electric devices is estimated based on a variation in total energy consumption amount detected by a meter.
