TL;DR: Mesoporous semiconducting films consisting of preferentially orientated monoclinic-phase nanocrystals of tungsten trioxide have been prepared using a novel version of the sol-gel method, combining excellent photoresponse to the blue region of the solar spectrum, up to 500 nm, with good transparency at wavelengths larger than 550 nm.
Abstract: Mesoporous semiconducting films consisting of preferentially orientated monoclinic-phase nanocrystals of tungsten trioxide have been prepared using a novel version of the sol−gel method. Transformations undergone by a colloidal solution of tungstic acid, stabilized by an organic additive such as poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) 300, as a function of the annealing temperature have been followed by means of a confocal Raman microscope. The shape and size of WO3 nanoparticles, the porosity, and the properties of the films depend critically on preparation parameters, such as the tungstic acid/PEG ratio, the PEG chain length, and the annealing conditions. Well-crystallized WO3 films combine excellent photoresponse to the blue region of the solar spectrum, up to 500 nm, with good transparency at wavelengths larger than 550 nm. Particular applications of these nanocrystalline WO3 films include photoelectrochemical and electrochromic devices.

TL;DR: A review of roll-to-roll (R2R) compatible applications for thin-film transistors can be found in this article, where the current status of R2R application within some of the existing research fields such as organic photovoltaics, organic thin film transistors, light-emitting diodes, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells and electrochromic devices.
Abstract: With the prospect of extremely fast manufacture of very low cost devices, organic electronics prepared by thin film processing techniques that are compatible with roll-to-roll (R2R) methods are presently receiving an increasing interest. Several technologies using organic thin films are at the point, where transfer from the laboratory to a more production-oriented environment is within reach. In this review, we aim at giving an overview of some of the R2R-compatible techniques that can be used in such a transfer, as well the current status of R2R application within some of the existing research fields such as organic photovoltaics, organic thin film transistors, light-emitting diodes, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, and electrochromic devices. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. TL;DR: In this article, the authors review data on transparent and electrically conducting films of ITO (i.e., In2O3:Sn) and outline quantitative theories for the optical properties and their applications, for uses in optimized electrochromic window coatings capable of yielding indoor comfort and energy efficiency.
Abstract: We review data on transparent and electrically conducting films of ITO (i.e. In2O3:Sn). A survey is given on the most recent progress, in 2001, of fundamental electronic bandstructure, techniques to boost the conductivity, and alternative dopants and manufacturing techniques. We then outline quantitative theories for the optical properties and their applications. Finally, we consider ITO films for uses in optimized electrochromic window coatings capable of yielding indoor comfort and energy efficiency.
