TL;DR: In this article, it has been pointed out that without a greater sophistication than is current, this methodology fails to meet the needs of economic geography, and that the satisfaction of these needs may eventually lead to those elusive "principles of economics."
Abstract: O_ NE of the paradoxes of contemporary geography is the disparity between the number of substantive contributions to economic geography and the conceptual progress of this branch. Anglo-Saxon geographers favor individuality rather than scholastic conformity, so that methodological aspects have tended to be overshadowed by the volume of case studies. True, a simple methodology can be traced in these studies, as shown in the progress from the physical elements of environment to social and economic features and, finally, to areal synthesis. This has both supported and, in turn, has been aided by, the importance of the " region " in geographical literature. It has become evident, however, that without a greater sophistication than is current, this methodology fails to meet the needs of economic geography. The satisfaction of these needs-greater rigor in defining concepts, precision in ineasurement, and applicability of conclusions-may eventually lead to those elusive "principles of economic geography."
