TL;DR: In this paper, a novel joining method for permanent formwork, involving the embedment of GFRP in high-strength fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HSFRCC), is proposed.
Abstract: A novel joining method for permanent formwork, involving the embedment of GFRP in high-strength fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HSFRCC), is proposed. Direct pull-out test is carried out to investigate the bonding capacity between the HSFRCC and GFRP reinforcement. From the experimental data, interfacial parameters are extracted for calculating the required embedded length of GFRP bars to ensure sufficient bonding capacity. According to the test results, the required embedded length of GFRP bars is obtained and the joint width thus can be determined. To further verify the joining method, beam members made with joined and monolithic PDCC formwork are prepared and tested under four point bending. The comparison indicates only about 5 % difference between the load capacities in the two cases. Besides, the worse scenario in the test that the joint was placed at the location with the maximum moment would rarely happen in practice.

Abstract: THIS PAPER SUMMARIZES FINDING OF A RESEARCH PROGRAM TO STUDY DESIGN CRITERIA FOR THE PROPER LENGTHS FOR ANCHOR BOLT EMBEDMENT INTO DRILLED SHAFTS. THE PROGRAM INCLUDED A SERIES OF TESTS ON 36 ANCHOR BOLTS RANGING FROM 1 1/4 TO 3 IN. IN DIAMETER WHICH WERE EMBEDDED NEAR THE EDGE OF A SQUARE SHAFT SPECIMEN AND WERE UNDER A COMBINATION OF FLEXURAL TENSION, BOND, AND SPLITTING CONDITIONS APPROXIMATING THOSE IN THE PROTOTYPE. LOADED-END SLIP BEHAVIOR WAS DETERMINED AT NOMINAL WORKING LOADS, AT FIRST YELDING, AND IN MANY CASES AT ULTIMATE CAPACITY. IMPORTANT TRENDS AFFECTING DESIGN PRACTICES ARE INDICATED. /AUTHOR/

TL;DR: In this article, a micro-abrasive wear test was used to investigate the wear behavior of metallic samples and the results showed that the embedding of abrasive particles and the formation of grooves in the crater's surface may induce to artificially small wear coefficient when the test is applied to ductile materials.

TL;DR: In this article, the vertical uplift resistance for a group of two horizontal coaxial rigid strip anchors embedded in clay under undrained condition has been determined by using the upper bound theorem of limit analysis in combination with finite elements.
Abstract: The vertical uplift resistance for a group of two horizontal coaxial rigid strip anchors embedded in clay under undrained condition has been determined by using the upper bound theorem of limit analysis in combination with finite elements. An increase of undrained shear strength of soil mass with depth has been incorporated. The uplift factor F-c gamma has been computed. As compared to a single isolated anchor, a group of two anchors provides greater magnitude of the uplift resistance. For a given embedment ratio, the group of two anchors generates almost the maximum uplift resistance when the upper anchor is located midway between ground surface and the lower anchor. For a given embedment ratio, F-c gamma increases linearly with an increase in the normalized unit weight of soil mass up to a certain value before attaining a certain maximum magnitude; the maximum value of F-c gamma increases with an increase in embedment ratio. TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed investigation of the influence of key mechanical and geometrical parameters on the rocking impedance of rigid strip foundations embedded in layered soil is presented in the form of simple and versatile dimensionless graphs.
Abstract: This paper presents a detailed investigation of the influence of key mechanical and geometrical parameters on the rocking impedance of rigid strip foundations embedded in layered soil. Geometrical parameters include the depth of embedment, the thickness of the top soil layer, and the degree of contact of foundation sidewalls with surrounding backfill soil. The influence of the relative shear wave velocities of the layers for a two-layered soil profile is also investigated. The results are presented in the form of simple and versatile dimensionless graphs. This investigation is conducted using an advanced algorithm of the boundary element method incorporating isoparametric boundary elements. Higher order quadratic elements are used since they can model accurately the wavy nature of the dynamic problem.
