TL;DR: In this paper, a total of three quasi-static cyclic tests were conducted to investigate the structural behavior of the Dieh-Dou timber frame under different combinations of horizontal and vertical loads.
Abstract: Under different combinations of horizontal and vertical loads, a total of three quasi-static cyclic tests were conducted to investigate the structural behavior of the Dieh-Dou timber frame. Typical deformation patterns include column rocking, joint rotation around the primary beam-column and column Dou-column regions, vertical shear around the column mortise, embedment around primary beam-column regions, and vertical shearing around the mortise regions of the Dou members. Visible deformation generally began from 1/30 rad onward. The column-restoring force contributed mainly to the frame’s moment resistance when displacement is small. When frame deformation exceeds 1/50 rad, bending moment from the primary beam dominated the global restoring force. Hence, the column-restoring force and the primary beam-column connection generally undertake the primary moment-resisting mechanism while the complex bracket structures above the primary beam play a secondary role. Based on the embedment theory and semi-...

TL;DR: Through experiments it is indicated that the fracture width can be greatly reduced by proppant embedment; the smaller the sanding concentration and the softer of the core, the greater level of embedment is.
Abstract: A experimental research on proppant embedment in core was carried out by use of self-propelled proppant embedment test instrument based on API standards.Studied the effects of proppant embedment and regards of the influence of layer fraction.Studied embedment of different cores with different sanding concentrations and pressure.Through experiments it is indicated that the fracture width can be greatly reduced by proppant embedment;the smaller the sanding concentration and the softer of the core, the greater level of embedment is.

TL;DR: Based on the coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method, a numerical approach incorporating anchor line effects is developed to investigate comprehensive anchor behaviors in the soil, including penetration of drag anchors, keying of suction embedded plate anchors and diving of gravity installed anchors as discussed by the authors.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed analytical solutions for the prediction of the load-settlement response of a compressible axially loaded cast in situ pile in rock, where the principal input parameters are derived from the τ-z curve which applies to the contact zone between the pile shaft and the embedment material.
Abstract: Analytical solutions are developed for the prediction of the load–settlement response of a compressible axially loaded cast in situ pile in rock. The principal input parameters are derived from the τ–z curve which applies to the contact zone between the pile shaft and the embedment material. For larger diameter piles in rock, these τ–z curves can differ markedly from curves that apply to piles in clay and may include a significant strain hardening region prior to reaching peak strength. In addition to the complete analyses which would normally require the use of a computer, simplified solutions suitable for hand calculations have been derived for the peak load and the pile head displacement to peak. An example of the application of these simplified design calculations is presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the energy barrier for sub-surface oxygen diffusion is predicted to be less than that for on-surface diffusion, suggesting a mechanism for the formation of subsurface oxygen structures that are consistent with a recent experiment.
