TL;DR: In this paper, a DNN as an encoding pipeline is proposed to transmit the output feature space of an intermediate layer to the host to enhance the maximum input rate supported by the edge platform and/or reduce the energy consumption of the edge platforms.
Abstract: This paper introduces partitioning an inference task of a deep neural network between an edge and a host platform in the IoT environment. We present a DNN as an encoding pipeline, and propose to transmit the output feature space of an intermediate layer to the host. The lossless or lossy encoding of the feature space is proposed to enhance the maximum input rate supported by the edge platform and/or reduce the energy of the edge platform. Simulation results show that partitioning a DNN at the end of convolutional (feature extraction) layers coupled with feature space encoding enables significant improvement in the energy-efficiency and throughput over the baseline configurations that perform the entire inference at the edge or at the host.

TL;DR: In this paper, a direct sequence spread spectrum receiver samples an incoming signal and translates the signal to an IF signal, which is stored in memory (192, 194) in one embodiment, the memory consists of two memory banks which alternately receive sample segments.
Abstract: A direct sequence spread spectrum receiver samples an incoming signal and translates the signal to an IF signal. The IF signal is sampled ans stored in memory (192, 194). In one embodiment, the memory consists of two memory banks which alternately receive sample segments. During a write period to one of the memory banks, the other memory bank supplies its output to a processor (70). This continues in a ping-pong manner. In another embodiment, a single memory bank is filled and read as necessary, the receiver ignoring incoming signal until the processor has completed processing the sample available at the output of the memory. Such a receiver is useful in global positioning satellite (GPS) signal processing where the incoming signal contains several satellite transmissions encoded with CDMA encoding.

TL;DR: It is found that sleep has a protective effect on explicitly learned associations and the need for sleep‐mediated consolidation depends on the strategy used for learning and might be related to the level of integration of newly acquired memory achieved during encoding.

TL;DR: In this paper, the parity check bits are incorporated into a generalized and generalizable error correction system which produces a significantly simple decoding and error correction structure, and the system provides for SEC-DED code capabilities while at the same time providing capabilities for correcting multiple odd numbers of errors occurring in distinct groups.
Abstract: Advantage is taken of the presence of ordinary parity check bits occurring in the data flow in a computer or other information-handling system to improve error correction capability while at the same time providing simpler decoding. More particularly, the encoding and decoding system, methods, and devices herein include the capability of separating error correction in data bits and in parity check bits. In this regard, it is noted that the present invention therefore provides an improved memory system in which the parity check bits do not have to be stripped off prior to storage of data into a memory system with error correction coding redundancy built in. Instead of these parity check bits being stripped off, they are incorporated into a generalized and generalizable error correction system which produces a significantly simple decoding and error correction structure. The system provides for SEC-DED code capabilities while at the same time providing capabilities for correcting multiple odd numbers of errors occurring in distinct groups. Accordingly, the present invention provides encoding and decoding systems and methods, and a correspondingly improved memory system.

TL;DR: Across experiments, item-specific and relational encoding both boosted correct recognition relative to reading, but only item- specific encoding typically reduced false recognition.
Abstract: We compared the effects of item-specific versus relational encoding on recognition memory in the Deese–Roediger–McDermott paradigm. In Experiment 1, we directly compared item-specific and relational encoding instructions, whereas in Experiments 2 and 3 we biased pleasantness and generation tasks, respectively, toward one or the other type of processing. A read condition was tested in each experiment for comparison purposes. Across experiments, item-specific and relational encoding both boosted correct recognition relative to reading, but only item-specific encoding typically reduced false recognition. Signal-detection measures revealed that less information was encoded about critical items after item-specific than after relational encoding. In contrast, item-specific and relational encoding led to equivalent increases in strategic monitoring at test (e.g., use of a distinctiveness heuristic). Thus, monitoring at test was less successful after relational than item-specific encoding because more information had been encoded about critical lures.
