TL;DR: The main contribution of this paper is to initiate a discussion for the needs and challenges of IE education both at university level and in lifelong learning, in order to meet the requirements of the emerging technologies of the 21st century.
Abstract: Technology development creates many challenges in the education of industrial-electronics (IE)-related subjects. At the same time, it allows new educational paradigms to be implemented. The main contribution of this paper is to initiate a discussion for the needs and challenges of IE education both at university level and in lifelong learning, in order to meet the requirements of the emerging technologies of the 21st century. Educational challenges and opportunities are first identified and analyzed. Afterward, an overview of state-of-the-art learning methodologies and tools is presented. New educational paradigms and future directions are also identified.

TL;DR: By introducing practicing engineering to the course from day one, student motivation is increased, and the relationship between theoretical and practical aspects of engineering is demonstrated more clearly, this "hands-on approach" allows the student a greater insight into the life of an engineer.
Abstract: This paper discusses a teaching experience obtained in the undergraduate course of Control Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil. The course endeavors to introduce the students to the university and to the real world of engineering and to develop an understanding of basic engineering concepts and foster professional skills. By introducing practicing engineering to the course from day one, student motivation is increased, and the relationship between theoretical and practical aspects of engineering is demonstrated more clearly. This "hands-on approach" allows the student a greater insight into the life of an engineer. It strengthens a weakness found in established teaching methods, allowing the individual to embark on his or her engineering education with greater confidence in his or her ability as an engineer.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the experiences of undergraduates acting as peer leaders in an extensive peer-led team learning program in introductory undergraduate sciences and engineering courses and identified multiple areas in which peer facilitators reported experiences ofgrowth and the ways in which they understood and responded to this growth.
Abstract: This article presents the results of a study investigating the experiences of undergraduatesacting as peer leaders in an extensive peer-led team learning program in introductory undergraduate sciences and engineering courses. In an effort to understand the facilitator experience in the program better and to report initial findings on the benefits derived through a peer-facilitation experience, the study identified multiple areas in which peer facilitators reported experiences ofgrowth and the ways in which they understood and responded to this growth.
