TL;DR: This work considers the design of two mode converters from TM01 circular to TEM coaxial and 2) TE 10 rectangular to TM 01 circular, which are reciprocal devices and can be used in either direction of mode conversion.
Abstract: Quite often, the output of high-power microwave sources is extracted in a waveguide mode that is not directly useful to feed an antenna. This makes mode conversion essential at high powers. The power levels can be in the range of a few MW to a GW lasting for a time duration that typically contains hundred cycles of the microwave frequency. We consider the design of two mode converters 1) from TM01 circular to TEM coaxial and 2) TE 10 rectangular to TM01 circular. It is noted that the mode converters are reciprocal devices and can be used in either direction of mode conversion.

TL;DR: In this article, an active element that performs induced emission of light of a prescribed wavelength is added in a concentration that is higher than that in at least part of a region where the intensity of the LP01 mode, LP02 mode, and LP03 mode is higher.
Abstract: Provided is an amplification optical fibre which can output light having a desired power, and also provided are an optical fibre amplifier and resonator which use the amplification optical fibre. An amplification optical fibre (50) has a core (51) and cladding (52) that covers the core (51). The core (51) propagates light of a prescribed wavelength in at least LP01 mode, LP02 mode, and LP03 mode. In at least part of a region in the core (51) where the intensity of at least one of the LP02 mode and LP03 mode is higher than the intensity of the LP01 mode when the LP01 mode, LP02 mode, and LP03 mode are standardised in terms of power, an active element that performs induced emission of light of a prescribed wavelength is added in a concentration that is higher than that in at least part of a region where the intensity of the LP01 mode is higher than the intensity of the LP02 mode and LP03 mode.

TL;DR: In this article, a high power, strictly single transverse mode ytterbium-doped large mode area fiber amplifier with backward pump scheme was reported, with energies of 38µJ and peak powers in excess of 39kW at a repetition rate of 1Hz.
Abstract: The paper reports a high power, strictly single transverse mode ytterbium-doped large mode area fiber amplifier with backward pump scheme that produces near diffraction-limited, 2-ns shaped pulses with energies of 38µJ and peak powers in excess of 39kW at a repetition rate of 1Hz.

TL;DR: The spectral properties of a LP(01) ?
Abstract: The spectral properties of a LP01 ↔ LP02 mode converter by using a photoinduced fiber grating are investigated. A fiber with given parameters is considered, and the wavelength dependence of power conversion between the two modes is calculated. The results show that the spectrum can be narrowed by selecting the operating wavelength close to the cutoff wavelength of the LP02 mode. The methods for obtaining a mode converter with a broadband spectrum and a mode converter with a spectrum having two peaks are also discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors suppressed the delay of the transmission signal through mode redistribution realized by applying a torsional stress to a fiber using a variable mode controller, which achieved an equilibrium mode distribution by mode redistribution.
Abstract: The mode dispersion induced in step-index multimode fibers significantly deteriorates the transmission characteristics and bandwidth. To overcome this existing problem, we suppressed the delay of the transmission signal through mode redistribution realized by applying a torsional stress to a fiber using a variable mode controller. By suppressing the transmission delay, the transmission characteristics and bandwidth of the fiber set in the variable mode controller have been improved. The mode of the fiber set in the variable mode controller achieves an equilibrium mode distribution by mode redistribution. Therefore, the near- and far-field patterns of the variable mode controller were largely stable.
