TL;DR: This work focuses and investigates the feasibility of integrating an optic micro lens, compatible with the size of the up- tapered optic fibre to increase the coupling efficiency and shows the effect of input power coupling efficiency from source to wave guide, measured by optical field propagation.
Abstract: In optical communication systems, the fibre cable plays a vital role in carrying the optical signals from one equipment to another equipment. Active light systems may employ single mode and multimode fibres for the transmission of optical signals. An inherent disadvantage highly noticeable in either case is the underutilization of optical fibre cables in terms of power transmission while coupling with the source. The efficiency of coupling between semiconductor lasers and single mode optical fibres can be greatly increased by a micro lens of an appropriate focal length being fabricated at the front-end of the up tapered fibre. This proposed structure is realised by the simulation work, and it shows the effect of input power coupling efficiency from source to wave guide, measured by optical field propagation. Ordinary fiber, up-tapered fiber and this proposed Microlens integrated up-tapered fiber were taken for our analysis and this proposed work exhibit better coupling efficiency than the previous structures. This work focuses and investigates the feasibility of integrating an optic micro lens, compatible with the size of the up- tapered optic fibre to increase the coupling efficiency.

TL;DR: In this article, a newly developed optical mode solver was implemented for studies on the recently experimentally realized Yb fiber amplifier with 7-core hexagonal structure, and it was found that the launched seven single-frequency beams matched with the cores converge to a wave field with permanently diminishing space beating patterns, but the result is sensitive to phases of separate beams.

TL;DR: In this paper, a light signal launched into the fiber through the low ratio leg of a tap coupler is used to establish a narrow spectral width, under-filled non-uniform mode field power distribution in the cable.
Abstract: Intrusion detection for a multimode fiber optic cable uses a light signal launched into the fiber through the low ratio leg of a tap coupler to establish a narrow spectral width, under-filled non-uniform mode field power distribution in the cable. A small portion of the higher order signal modes at the remote end is monitored for transient changes in the mode field power distribution which are characteristic of fiber intrusion to activate an alarm. The active signal of a multimode optical fiber is monitored for both signal degradation and transient power disturbance patterns that could indicate fiber damage or physical intrusion. A translator can be provided in an existing optical fiber system in which the data signals are translated in wavelength and/or launch conditions to optimize the monitoring signals in an otherwise non-optimized system.

TL;DR: In this paper, a theory and measurements that show the dependence of the frequency noise spectrum and therefore of the semiconductor laser linewidth on the mode distribution are presented, based on rate equations.
Abstract: A theory and measurements that show the dependence of the frequency noise spectrum and, therefore, of the semiconductor laser linewidth on the mode distribution are presented. The theory is based on rate equations where the linewidth is strongly influenced by the gain saturation coefficients (nonlinear gain). Analytical results are restricted to two modes. Measurements show that the linewidth change of the main mode depends on the wavelength side of the side mode (related to the wavelength mode of the main mode) and the effect decreases with increasing mode separation. Furthermore, the theoretical and measured frequency noise spectra of a three-mode laser are depicted, showing a characteristic resonance peak for certain mode distributions. This property of the frequency noise spectrum is also described by the theory. >
