TL;DR: In this paper, pyrene-containing phospholipid analogues have been studied for their absorption in the range of 300-650 nm, which indicates the very close proximity of the pyrene moieties, yet without significant ground state interaction, as suggested by the similarity to the absorption spectra of pyrene in organic solvents.

TL;DR: In this article, a fluorescent lamp is described in which spontaneous excimer UV emission in an inner tube results from reacting an inert gas molecule with a halide molecule in the excited state.
Abstract: A fluorescent lamp is described in which spontaneous excimer UV emission in an inner tube results from reacting an inert gas molecule with a halide molecule in the excited state. The UV emission travels through the inner tube envelope to an outer tube and is absorbed by a fluorescent material, i.e., phosphor, to produce visible light which passes through the outer tube envelope. The halide may be supplied by metal halide pellets or liquid droplets, which when heated by an initial discharge through an inert gas, produces metal halide vapors which dissociate and combine with the inert gas (Xe, Ar, Ne, Kr) in the excited state and result in UV excimer emission.

It has been found that for class a) in which the separations of singlet excited levels of A and B are less than a few times of kT, the delayed fluorescence of both components occur and the value of (pMA+pMB is close to that of the efficiency of a simple p-type delayed fluorescence, pA or pB. The delayed mixed excimer fluorescence also occurs in most cases. For class b) in which the level differences largely exceed kT, only the delayed fluorescence of the lower level component occurs. It has also been established that the delayed excimer fluorescence in a single component system...

TL;DR: This work provides the first atomistic description of the processes triggered by the absorption of UV light, reproducing and assigning the experimental optical and electronic circular dichroism spectra.
Abstract: Herein, a full quantum mechanical study, in solution, of several models of guanine-quadruplex helices, both parallel and antiparallel, containing up to eight guanine residues, in their electronic excited state is reported By exploiting TD-DFT calculations and including solvent effects by the polarizable continuum model, we provide the first atomistic description of the processes triggered by the absorption of UV light, reproducing and assigning the experimental optical and electronic circular dichroism spectra The absorbing excited states are delocalized over multiple bases, whereas emission involves a stacked guanine dimer or a monomer Several states, with a varying degree of localization and charge-transfer character, rule the photoexcited dynamics, which are deeply affected by the quadruplex topology The lowest excited-state minimum for parallel quadruplex is an asymmetric excimer involving two stacked guanines, with a small charge transfer character, whereas for the anti-parallel structure, with the same topology of the thrombin binding aptamer, it is a fully symmetric excimer, characterized by a strong decrease of the stacking distance A monomer-like decay path is the most relevant nonradiative decay pathway Insights on the effect of the ions (K+ or Na+) on the excited state decay are also provided
