TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the ArF excimer laser causes ablation of the calcified hard enamel tissue, and results suggest that excimer Laser could be applied in a controlled and defined manner for tooth enamel treatments in dentistry.
Abstract: Human enamel surface was irradiated with ArF excimer laser and examined under light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Enamel surface was irradiated at three different areas with different energy fluences. It is demonstrated that the ArF excimer laser causes ablation of the calcified hard enamel tissue. Ablation curves were measured. There was no significant difference found in the etch depth between the three different areas of enamel surface. The morphology of the irradiated areas seen under the SEM was found to be dependent on energy fluence. It changed with increase in energy fluence from being etched to forming a smooth, fused, glaze-like surface and then at very high energy fluences producing a rough surface. The influence of the laser irradiation was confined to the irradiated area only, with no visible heat damage to the surroundings. These results suggest that excimer laser could be applied in a controlled and defined manner for tooth enamel treatments in dentistry.

TL;DR: Excimer formation in a new class of terthiophene-based fluorophores covalently bonded to a cyclotetrasiloxane scaffold has been demonstrated and the photophysical process ruling it has been investigated in detail and modeled theoretically.
Abstract: Excimer formation in a new class of terthiophene-based fluorophores covalently bonded to a cyclotetrasiloxane scaffold has been demonstrated and the photophysical process ruling it has been investigated in detail and modeled theoretically. In contrast to the conventional systems in which long-living fluorophores such as pyrene are linked in the same molecule, an excimer is formed only when two terthiophene-based branches nano-organized on the same cyclotetrasiloxane scaffold are close enough together when excitation takes place. In such a case, excimer formation is extremely efficient, and the new bound excited states are quite stable.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of the excimer formation and decay processes in electron beam pumped high density rare gases has been developed, and the model has been compared with recent measurements of the Xe and information about the radiative lifetimes and dominant collision mechanisms are obtained.
Abstract: : A model of the excimer formation and decay processes in electron beam pumped high density rare gases has been developed. The model has been compared with recent measurements of the excimer formation and decay rates in Xe and information about the radiative lifetimes and dominant collision mechanisms are obtained. Several important conclusions that have bearing on the vuv laser characteristics of these systems are discussed.

TL;DR: Calculations indicate that the sandwich conformer of BFM in the singlet ground state is unstable, whereas that in the triplet excited state has a bound state, being very slightly higher in internal and Gibbs free energies than that of the lowest state of the near-orthogonal conformer.
Abstract: A concerted computational and experimental study has been undertaken to probe the conformational structure and excited-state dynamics of bis(9-fluorenyl)methane (BFM). We have observed that the relative intensity of the delayed excimer fluorescence of BFM is greatly enhanced in comparison with that of the normal fluorescence. This is presumably because the relative concentration of the triplet excimer is enhanced in comparison with the singlet excimer. B3LYP DFT/6-31G(d) calculations indicate that the sandwich conformer of BFM in the singlet ground state is unstable, whereas that in the triplet excited state has a bound state, being very slightly higher in internal and Gibbs free energies than that of the lowest state of the near-orthogonal conformer.
