Abstract: Although studies on species-level classification and mapping using multisource data and machine learning approaches are plenty, the use of data with ideal placement of central wavelength and bandwidth at appropriate spatial resolution, for the classification of mangrove species is underreported. The species composition of a mangrove forest has been estimated utilising the red-edge spectral bands and chlorophyll absorption information from AVIRIS-NG and Sentinel-2 data. In this study, three dominant species, Heritiera fomes, Excoecaria agallocha and Avicennia officinalis, have been classified using the random forest (RF) model for a mangrove forest in Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary, India. Various combinations of reflectance/backscatter bands and vegetation indices derived from Sentinel-2, AVIRIS-NG, and Sentinel-1 were used for species-level discrimination and mapping. The RF model showed maximum accuracy using Sentinel-2, followed by the AVIRIS-NG, in discriminating three dominant species and two mixed compositions. This study indicates the potential of Sentinel-2 data for discriminating various mangrove species owing to the appropriate placement of central wavelength and bandwidth in Sentinel-2 at ≥10 m spatial resolution. The variable importance plots proved that species-level classification could be attempted using red edge and chlorophyll absorption information. This study has wider applicability in other mangrove forests around the world.

Abstract: A 1320-Megawatt capacity coal-fired power plant is establishing near the Ecologically Critical Area of the Sundarbans, Bangladesh. This power plant will generate 0.71 million tons of coal fly ash annually. Most of the previous studies concentrated on the soil amelioration and growth and yield of agricultural crops. However, this study investigated the effects of coal fly ash on the seedling growth (collar diameter, height, and biomass) of the major tree species (Bruguiera sexangula, Excoecaria agallocha, Heritiera fomes, and Xylocarpus mekongensis) of the Sundarbans, as well as to assess the nutrient (N, P, and K) partitioning in their parts (leaf, stem, and roots). Mangrove soil and coal fly ash were mixed to get seven treatments say T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, and T7, which contained 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of fly ash (w/w) respectively. Abstract: In our investigation, effect of auxin on rooting and sprouting behavior of stem cutting of Excoecaria agallocha has been studied. Initially stem cuttings was pretreated to remove the phenol content in the cutting and then the stem cuttings that was devoid from phenols cuttings were subjected to hormonal treatment with auxins derivatives as IBA 2000ppm, IPA 2000ppm, NAA 2000ppm and IBA+NAA combination 2000ppm. The root length and their number, rooting and sprouting percentage, number of leaves per cutting, leaf area and photosynthetic pigments were analyzed on 40, 50 and 60 day after planting(DAP) and isoenzyme pattern of peroxidase of root and leaf were also analyzed. Among the auxin treatments IBA 2000ppm vastly enhances rooting and sprouting behavior followed by IPA, IBA+NAA and NAA of Excoecaria agallocha. The isoenzyme analysis for peroxidase were clearly shown that peroxidase (POX) were highly supports both root initiation and elongation processes in Excoecaria agallocha L.
