TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted to determine the species composition, diversity index and above-ground biomass in 15.8 ha Mixed Mangrove Forest at Tok Bali, Kelantan, Indonesia.
Abstract: This paper attempts to give information about the structure of mangrove distribution at Tok Bali, Kelantan in order to initiate for management and rehabilitation program. A study was conducted in July to November 2006 to determine the species composition, diversity index and above-ground biomass in 15.8 ha Mixed Mangrove Forest. A transects forest profile length of 30 meter and 20 plots were established, a Diameter Breast Height (DBH) and height were measured and recorded, and also diversity index and above-ground biomass were determined. A total of 10 species consisting of nine exclusive and one non-exclusive mangrove were recorded. The common species found were Sonneratia alba (1,170 trees/ha, 330 saplings/ha and 22,680 seedlings/ha) followed by Ceriops decandra, Excoecaria agallocha, Avicennia alba, Bruguiera cylindrica, B. sexangula, Rhizophora apiculata, Aegiceras corniculatum, Nypa fruticans and Derris trifoliata. From the results an average of 595 trees/ha, 598 saplings/ha and 646 seedlings/ha represented a moderate good condition and regeneration potential. Total above-ground biomass was 2664.57 kg/ha and S. alba also recorded the highest because the of wide range of diameter and height. Mangrove trees showed total average of species richness (S) was 8.0, eveness (E) was 0.793 and diversity (H') was 1.603.

TL;DR: In this article, two estuarine ecosystems on the central west coast of India (Maharashtra) were studied for their mineral constituents and the results showed that the two creeks which are about 3 km apart have different soil and water conditions with respect to pH and inorganic elements.
Abstract: Two estuarine ecosystems on the central west coast of India (Maharashtra) were studied for their mineral constituents. The results show that the two creeks which are about 3 km apart have different soil and water conditions with respect to pH and inorganic elements. This difference is reflected in the species composition at these two places and also in their mineral constituents. The soil at Deogad is sandy and has little water-holding capacity. Species such as Avicennia officinalis, Sonneratia alba, Excoecaria agallocha and others occurring at both the creeks show differences in their levels of inorganic constituents

TL;DR: In this article, the authors carried out in vitro antioxidant tests to evaluate the antioxidant ability of Methanolic extracts of selected mangrove plans i.e., Aegiceras corniculatum, Excoecaria agallocha and Lumnitzera racemosa.
Abstract: Antioxidants are vital substances that have an ability to protect the body from various damages caused by free radical-induced oxidative stress. Plants are the source of a wide variety of natural free radical scavenging antioxidants. The objective of the present study is to carry out in vitro antioxidant tests to evaluate the antioxidant ability of Methanolic extracts of selected mangrove plans i.e., Aegiceras corniculatum, Excoecaria agallocha and Lumnitzera racemosa. In this study, In vitro antioxidant activity was estimated by assays like DPPH, Reducing power assay and total antioxidant activity methods. The in vitro antioxidant studies revealed that, the extract of Lumnitzera racemosa has the highest phenolic content (38.80 ± 0.19 µg GAE/ 100 µg) and highest antioxidant potential. This is followed by Aegiceras corniculatum (24.06 ± 0.79 µg GAE/100 µg) and, Excoecaria agallocha (20.56 ± 0.58 µg GAE/100 µ). This study provides the preliminary data that can pave the way for further studies to validatee their medicinal uses and focus on bioassay guided fractionation and isolation of active compounds from the extracts.

TL;DR: The findings support the uses of the Excoecaria agallocha in traditional medicine as antimicrobials and/or antioxidants and the interesting biological activities obtained by micropropagated plants of ExcoECaria ag allocha need to be further investigated.
Abstract: Excoecaria agallocha has long been used in folk medicine in many countries as antimicrobials and/or antioxidants. Ei ghty percent methanol extracts obtained from Excoecaria agallocha was evaluated for antibacterial activity using the disc diffusion assay, antiradical scavenging effects, reduced glutathione and phenolic. Best antibacterial activity as indicated by disc di ffusion zone values was obtained by micropropagated Excoecaria agallocha against Staphylococcus aureus with a disc diffusion zone 25mm. Micropropagated and field grown plants inhibited growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae with zone values of 13mm and 11mm in d iameter respectively. A remarkable DPPH scavenging effect was observed with micropropagated plants (IC 50 of 10.2, 10.8 and 17.4 μg/ml, respectively). Ascorbic acid (AA) content observed in micropropagated plant leaf 18 mgl - 1 plant - 1 when compared to field grown plant ascorbic acid content. Highest total phenolic contents were recorded in micropropagated plan ts leave (207 and 205 mg/GAE/g). Our findings support the uses of the Excoecaria agallocha in traditional medicine. The interesting biological activities obtained by micropropagated plants of Excoecaria agallocha need to be further
