TL;DR: In this paper, a method of maintaining desirable optical performance of optical emitters over temperature variations is disclosed, in terms of power, extinction ratio, jitter, mask margin and general fiber optic transmitter eye quality.
Abstract: A method of maintaining desirable optical performance of optical emitters over temperature variations is disclosed. The optical performance of an optical emitter in terms of power, extinction ratio, jitter, mask margin and general fiber optic transmitter eye quality can be maintained by the present invention over a wide range of temperatures. Advantageously, the present invention enables the use of inexpensive optical emitters in optoelectronic transceivers and optoelectronic transmitters.

TL;DR: In this article, a plasmonic electro-optic modulator employing a silicon racetrack ring resonator coupled to a bus waveguide is proposed to achieve high speed performance and low energy consumption.
Abstract: We propose a silicon-compatible plasmonic electro-optic modulator employing a silicon racetrack ring resonator coupled to a bus waveguide. A silicon-plasmonic hybrid phase shifter clad with electro-optic polymer is introduced to achieve high-speed performance and low energy consumption. Simulations show that the proposed modulator can achieve an extinction ratio of more than 15 dB at 1550-nm wavelength under a 1.2-V bias voltage. The misalignment tolerance and fabrication feasibility of the modulator are also discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, a new optical filter design based on a vertically coupled photonic crystal (PhC) cavity and a bus waveguide monolithically integrated on the silicon-on-insulator platform is presented.
Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate a new optical filter design based on a vertically coupled photonic crystal (PhC) cavity and a bus waveguide monolithically integrated on the silicon-on-insulator platform. The use of a vertically coupled waveguide gives flexibility in the choice of the waveguide material and dimensions, dramatically lowering the insertion loss while achieving very high coupling efficiencies to wavelength scale resonators and thus allows the creation of PhC-based optical filters with very high extinction ratio (>10 dB).

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of the MEM-ECLSTM was evaluated for optical power, side mode suppression, polarization extinction ratio, relative intensity noise, and linewidth.
Abstract: In summary, silicon deep reactive ion etched (DRIE) MEMS actuators have enabled a small form factor, tunable laser source ideal for many DWDM applications. The performance of the MEM-ECL meets telecommunications requirements for optical power, side mode suppression, polarization extinction ratio, relative intensity noise, and linewidth. Frequency accuracy of /spl plusmn/1.25 GHz is obtained with closed loop control of the MEMS actuator voltage. Substantial immunity from external temperature fluctuations and vibrations can be achieved through a combination of thermo-mechanical design and servo control.

TL;DR: In this article, a polarization beam splitter (PBS) utilizing the anomalous reflection and transmission of an anisotropic metamaterial slab was proposed. But the authors did not specify the constitutive tensors of the slab, and the realization of the proposed PBS in the optical range is achieved by layered metal-dielectric nanostructured system.
Abstract: We report a polarization beam splitter (PBS) utilizing the anomalous reflection and transmission of an anisotropic metamaterial slab. By properly design of the constitutive tensors of the slab, PBS is achieved with little dependence on incident angle and slab thickness. The realization of the proposed PBS in the optical range is achieved by layered metal-dielectric nanostructured system, which could be modeled as an effective anisotropic metamaterial with the desired constitutive tensors. The full-wave electromagnetic simulation has confirmed the optical polarization splitting with an extinction ratio of over 20dB by a slab of an alternating silver and silicon carbide multilayer.
