TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the implementation of a multifunctional gap surface plasmon-based metasurface which, in reflection mode, splits orthogonal linear light polarizations and focuses into different focal spots.
Abstract: Metasurfaces are paving the way to improve traditional optical components by integrating multiple functionalities into one optically flat metasurface design. We demonstrate the implementation of a multifunctional gap surface plasmon-based metasurface which, in reflection mode, splits orthogonal linear light polarizations and focuses into different focal spots. The fabricated configuration consists of 50 nm thick gold nanobricks with different lateral dimensions, organized in an array of 240 nm × 240 nm unit cells on the top of a 50 nm thick silicon dioxide layer, which is deposited on an optically thick reflecting gold substrate. Our device features high efficiency (up to ∼65%) and polarization extinction ratio (up to ∼30 dB), exhibiting broadband response in the near-infrared band (750-950 nm wavelength) with the focal length dependent on the wavelength of incident light. The proposed optical component can be forthrightly integrated into photonic circuits or fiber optic devices.

TL;DR: In this article, the rise and fall times as well as extinction ratio of optical amplifiers for efficient wavelength conversion up to 4 Gb/s were analyzed and the system performance at 4 GHz was evaluated.
Abstract: Semiconductor optical amplifiers used for efficient wavelength conversion up to 4 Gb/s are discussed. The rise and fall times as well as extinction ratio are experimentally analyzed. System performance at 4 Gb/s is evaluated showing a penalty of only 1.5 dB for the converted signal for conversion over 17 nm. >

TL;DR: In this paper, the TW-EA modulator has a thin intrinsic layer (a 0.2 /spl mu/m thick strained InGaAlAs (13 nm)/InAlas (5 nm) MQW) and short interaction length (200 /spl µ/m).
Abstract: The proposed TW-EA modulator has a thin intrinsic layer (a 0.2 /spl mu/m thick strained InGaAlAs (13 nm)/InAlAs (5 nm) MQW) and short interaction length (200 /spl mu/m). The optical 3 dB modulation bandwidth exceeds 50 GHz, and the driving voltages for the 15 dB extinction ratio are 1.7 and 1.9 V for TE and TM modes respectively, at 1.55 /spl mu/m wavelength.

TL;DR: All-optical two line-four line encoder and two bit-wise comparator of RZ data streams at 40Gb/s based on cross gain modulation (XGM) and four wave mixing (FWM) in three parallel SOAs is proposed and experimental demonstrated.
Abstract: We proposed and experimental demonstrated all-optical two line-four line encoder and two bit-wise comparator of RZ data streams at 40Gb/s based on cross gain modulation (XGM) and four wave mixing (FWM) in three parallel SOAs. Five logic functions for digital encoder and comparator between two signals A and B: AB, AB, AB, AB and AOmicronB, were achieved simultaneously. The first three optical logics are realized based on XGM in SOAs, the fourth is realized with FWM, and the fifth is the mixing result of the first and the fourth. A detuning filter is employed to improve the output performance. The output extinction ratio (ER) for the XGM operation is above 10dB, and the ER for FWM operation is around 8 dB. Wide and clear eye patterns for the five logic outputs can be observed.
