TL;DR: A generic correlated Nakagami fading model is derived, in the form of a multiple CHF, allowing for an arbitrary covariance matrix and distinct real fading parameters.
Abstract: A complete statistical characterization of correlated Nakagami channels is either their joint probability density function or their joint characteristic function (CHF), which is indispensable to many applications in wireless communications. The classical correlated multivariate Nakagami model in current use is subject to a restriction that the fading parameters must be identical. We derive a generic correlated Nakagami fading model, in the form of a multiple CHF, allowing for an arbitrary covariance matrix and distinct real fading parameters. The application of the new model to wireless communications is also presented.

TL;DR: The capture probabilities, C/sub n/, defined as the probability that any of the n, contending packets are correctly received, are found with reference to a random-access mobile radio communications system in the presence or fading, shadowing, and near-far effect.
Abstract: The capture probabilities, C/sub n/, defined as the probability that any of the n, contending packets are correctly received, are found with reference to a random-access mobile radio communications system in the presence or fading, shadowing, and near-far effect. A Rician model for fading that is more general than the well-studied Rayleigh fading is considered. The capture probabilities are computed, and their dependence on the system parameters and, in particular, on the Rice factor, K, is investigated. As an example of application, a slotted ALOHA system is considered, and the performance of a simple control strategy is studied. Also, some analytical results are given as to the value of C/sub /spl alpha//=lim/sub n-/spl alpha//C/sub n/, which is relevant to the study of the system stability.

TL;DR: It is found that for Rayleigh fast fading MIMO channels, the spectral efficiency per antenna achieved by one-dimensional spatial water-filling is close to two-dimensional space-time water-Filling, however, with log-normal shadowing, space- time water- filling achieves significantly higher capacity per antenna than spatial water -filling at low to moderate SNR regimes.
Abstract: We compare the capacities achieved by space-time water-filling and spatial water-filling for MIMO fading channels Both the effects of fast fading and shadowing are considered It is found that for Rayleigh fast fading MIMO channels, the spectral efficiency per antenna achieved by one-dimensional spatial water-filling is close to two-dimensional space-time water-filling However, with log-normal shadowing, space-time water-filling achieves significantly higher capacity per antenna than spatial water-filling at low to moderate SNR regimes Furthermore, space-time water-filling has lower computational complexity than spatial water-filling It is also shown that space-time water-filling requires a priori knowledge of the channel gain distribution, and for Rayleigh channels with log-normal shadowing, the spectral efficiency advantage over spatial water-filling comes with an increased channel outage probability

TL;DR: An improved deterministic sum-of-sinusoids (SoS) channel simulator with a new parameter computation method is proposed to simulate a large number of uncorrelated Rayleigh fading processes.
Abstract: The generation of multiple uncorrelated Rayleigh fading waveforms is often demanded for simulating wideband fading channels, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels, and diversity-combined fading channels. In this letter, an improved deterministic sum-of-sinusoids (SoS) channel simulator with a new parameter computation method is proposed to simulate a large number of uncorrelated Rayleigh fading processes. Compared with the existing SoS channel simulators, the proposed deterministic SoS model yields a much better simulation efficiency while still preserving satisfactory approximations to the desired statistical properties of the reference model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed a characterization of the fading experienced in body-to-body communications channels for fire and rescue personnel using the recently proposed kappa- mu distribution and obtained a good fit to measured data.
Abstract: In this letter, we perform a novel characterization of the fading experienced in body to body communications channels for fire and rescue personnel using the recently proposed kappa - mu distribution. A transmitter positioned on the lead fire person and four strategically placed, time-synchronized 2.45-GHz receivers situated on the protective helmet and shoulders of another team member allowed small-scale signal variation to be recorded while a rescue team of four persons performed a building sweep and search type operation. A general kappa - mu model with parameters kappa=2.31 and mu=1.19 was obtained using maximum likelihood estimation and shown to provide a good fit to measured data. Level crossing rates for these channels are also presented.
