TL;DR: In this paper, an implementation of a terabits-per-second crossbar-equivalent switch-fabric for packet-switching networks is proposed, which consists of switch-modules employing semiconductor optical amplifier gates (SOAGs), arrayed waveguide grating routers, and multiple wavelength-channels.
Abstract: We propose an implementation of a terabits-per-second crossbar-equivalent switch-fabric for packet-switching networks. It consists of switch-modules employing semiconductor optical amplifier gates (SOAGs), arrayed waveguide grating routers, and multiple wavelength-channels. It offers large modularity and a small internal loss. The number of SOAGs in a 256/spl times/256 switch-fabric is one-eighth that of a conventional switch-fabric. Scalability up to 2.56 Tb/s is demonstrated by a 10 Gb/s transmission experiment in which the input level into the switch-module was observed to possess a dynamic range of 6 dB.

08 Oct 2003TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for reverse and forward link dynamic packet transport to and from a wireless data device in a CDMA2000 network is presented, the method comprising the steps of determining a frame transport capability of a reverse access channel or a forward common channel.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reverse and forward link dynamic packet transport to and from a wireless data device in a CDMA2000 network, the method comprising the steps of: determining a frame transport capability of a reverse access channel or a forward common channel; checking whether a data packet falls within the frame transport capability; and if the data packet falls within the frame transport capability encapsulating the data packet as a data burst message; sending the data burst message over the reverse access channel or forward common channel; receiving the data burst message; and reforming the data packet.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mobile IP data communication system is provided, which is capable of preventing dropouts of packet addressed to the mobile station at the time of switching the packet control station as a result of movement of a mobile station.
Abstract: A mobile IP data communication system is provided, which is capable of preventing dropouts of packet addressed to the mobile station at the time of switching the packet control station as a result of movement of the mobile station. A packet on an IP data connection that is used by the above-stated mobile station is forwarded to a next packet control station from a previous packet control station of the mobile station. The order of packets is correctly maintained by executing a process that a packet delivered to the next packet control station from the access router while the forwarding is in progress is buffered and a forwarding packet is put through ahead of such buffered packet or is forwarded only up to a time point when a packet from the access router is delivered.

TL;DR: In this article, the system and method of the present invention optically transmits redundant packets of data using infrared signals at pseudo-random intervals to allow a receiver to distinguish between multiple simultaneous sources.
Abstract: The system and method of the present invention optically transmits redundant packets of data using infrared signals at pseudo-random intervals to allow a receiver to distinguish between multiple simultaneous sources. The emitters repeatedly transmit a short packet at randomized intervals much shorter than the frame rate. Statistical analysis shows that the probability of collision of the desired packet with a packet from some other source is sufficiently low such that timely reception of at least one uncorrupted packet in the required time frame is assured.

29 Dec 2009TL;DR: In this paper, a simple protocol optimized for audio/video (AV) data transmission is used, in which information distinguishing a data packet from a control packet is included in a data link layer packet header, so that data packet and control packet may be distinguished from each other and thereby may be processed according to different procedures.
Abstract: Provided is a packet processing apparatus and method for audio/video (AV) data transmission, in which a simple protocol optimized for AV data transmission is used. Information distinguishing a data packet from a control packet may be included in a data link layer packet header, so that a data packet and a control packet may be distinguished from each other and thereby may be processed according to different procedures.
