TL;DR: A cable modem interface unit is positioned between a cable modem and a network driver interface layer as discussed by the authors, where the interface unit includes a control packet filter coupled to the modem, which determines whether the packet is a control or a data packet.
Abstract: A cable modem interface unit is positioned between a cable modem and a network driver interface layer. The cable modem receives packets from a packet source. The interface unit includes a control packet filter coupled to the modem. The control packet filter receives a packet from the cable modem and determines whether the packet is a control packet or a data packet. The interface unit further includes a receive unit coupled to the control packet and the network driver interface layer. If the control packet filter determines that the packet is a data packet, the receive unit receives the packet from the control packet filter and sends the packet to the network driver interface layer. The interface unit further includes a protocol handler coupled to the receive unit. If the control packet filter determines that the packet is a control packet, the protocol handler receives the packet from the control packet filter.

TL;DR: It is shown that prediction algorithms in the least mean square error sense prove better in a burst rather than in a packet switching network, and linear prediction provides a significant improvement in end-to-end latency with low bandwidth waste.
Abstract: We show that prediction algorithms in the least mean square error sense prove better in a burst rather than in a packet switching network. For the latter, further information about the packet arrival distribution within the prediction interval is required. Regarding burst switching, we compare optical burst switching networks with and without linear prediction to conclude that linear prediction provides a significant improvement in end-to-end latency with low bandwidth waste.

TL;DR: In this article, a power control algorithm uses the packet data load to determine a common or equal broadcast or transmitted power level for the channels in the cell in each cell of the radio network.
Abstract: Method and system are disclosed for improving the channel quality in a packet data radio network. In each cell of the radio network the packet data is measured based on channel utilization and/or packet queue measurements. A power control algorithm uses the packet data load to determine a common or equal broadcast or transmitted power level for the channels in the cell. The common broadcast or transmitted power may subsequently be adjusted on an individual channel basis for channels that fall outside a predefined quality window.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for remotely waking up a device connected to a local area network (LAN) is disclosed, where a special data packet is disclosed wherein the destination address of the packet is embedded at least 16 consecutive times within the data field of packet.
Abstract: A system and method for remotely waking up a device connected to a local area network (LAN) is disclosed. A special data packet is disclosed wherein the destination address of the packet is embedded at least 16 consecutive times within the data field of the packet. When this particular type of packet is transmitted on the LAN, it is first decoded by the I/O subsystem of the device to determine whether or not it is a remote wake-up packet. After determining that the packet received is a remote wake-up packet, a wake-up enable line is activated thereby taking the system out of its low power mode, for providing further processing of future received packets.

TL;DR: Connection principles of such multipath networks for packet switching are presented and performance of such networks is analyzed for possible use in multiprocessor systems or in data flow computers.
Abstract: Most packet switched multistage networks have been proposed to use a unique path between any source and destination. We propose to add a few extra stages to create multiple paths between any source and destination. Connection principles of such multipath networks for packet switching are presented. Performance of such networks is analyzed for possible use in multiprocessor systems or in data flow computers.
