TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the need for additional ground fault protection for service entrance devices of specific types in the case of arcing ground fault burndowns, such as the one reported in this paper.
Abstract: Recurring reports of arcing ground fault burndowns have generated a considerable amount of interest in the subject on the part of those individuals who are responsible for the design of power systems In fact the interest is so widespread that as one consequence, article 230-95 of the 1972 edition of the National Electrical Code requires that service entrance devices of specific types be equipped with additional ground fault protection

TL;DR: In this paper, a new compensation method based on fault resistance calculation is presented, which is based on monitoring the active power at the relay point and measures accurately the impedance between the relay location and the fault point.
Abstract: The fault resistance introduces an error in the fault distance estimate, and hence may create an unreliable operation of a distance relay. A new compensation method based on fault resistance calculation is presented. The fault resistance calculation is based on monitoring the active power at the relay point. The compensated fault impedance measures accurately the impedance between the relay location and the fault point. The relay has shown satisfactory performances under various fault conditions especially for the ground faults with high fault resistance. This new compensation method avoids the under-reach problem in ground distance relays

TL;DR: FTAPE (Fault Tolerance And Performance Evaluator) is a tool that can be used to compare fault-tolerant computers and the errors/fault ratio, performance degradation, and number of system crashes are presented as measures of fault tolerance.
Abstract: This paper describes FTAPE (Fault Tolerance And Performance Evaluator), a tool that can be used to compare fault-tolerant computers. The major parts of the tool include a system-wide fault injector, a workload generator, and a workload activity measurement tool. The workload creates high stress conditions on the machine. Using stress-based injection, the fault injector is able to utilize knowledge of the workload activity to ensure a high level of fault propagation. The errors/fault ratio, performance degradation, and number of system crashes are presented as measures of fault tolerance.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used rough set theory as a data-mining tool to derive useful patterns and rules for distribution feeder faulty equipment diagnosis and fault location, in particular the historical data of Taiwan Power Company was used for validation and the results show the practical viability of the proposed approach.
Abstract: Distribution feeder faults cause power outages, therefore it is crucial to diagnose and thus locate the fault quickly to reduce the duration of the outage. In practice, feeder patrols usually identify the fault locations by referencing the regional distribution of the calls reporting trouble, the abnormal observations of the feeders that have been reported in the calls, and the observed conditions in the surrounding environments. Feeder patrols in Taiwan have recorded each fault on a table that includes time, date, month, year, address, equipment at fault, causes or accidents, and etc. The database has accumulated a large base of information for many years. This study aims to use rough set theory as a data-mining tool to derive useful patterns and rules for distribution feeder faulty equipment diagnosis and fault location. In particular, the historical data of distribution feeder faults of Taiwan Power Company was used for validation and the results show the practical viability of the proposed approach.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system and method for diagnosing one or more faults or potential faults in a machine, which has a fault recognition module for analyzing the machine data.
Abstract: A system and method for diagnosing one or more faults or one or more potential faults in a machine. The system and method has a communications module for communicating machine data between the machine and the system. It also has a fault recognition module for analyzing the machine data, which can determine one or more faults or potential faults in the machine. An expert system module having a fault tree is guided through only a truncated portion of the fault tree based upon output from the fault recognition module.
