TL;DR: In this paper, a dual frequency circularly polarized feed for an offset reflector antenna was developed for a portable satellite ground terminal, which achieved good aperture efficiency and low sidelobes in both of the frequency bands.
Abstract: A millimeter-wave dual frequency circularly polarized feed for an offset reflector antenna is being developed for a portable satellite ground terminal. The two frequency bands are Q - and K -bands for transmit and receive, respectively. A compact feed design consisting of a single corrugated horn with two circular waveguide concentric openings at the horn throat is described. Good aperture efficiency and low sidelobes in both of the frequency bands are achieved.

TL;DR: In this article, a microstrip reflectarray using patches of variable size is proposed, and several important performance criteria are compared with the standard parabolic reflector and the microstrip array.
Abstract: In a great number of microwave applications a highly directive antenna with a main beam scanned to a certain angle is required. To achieve this a certain aperture illumination with progressive phasing is used. The two primary ways to do this are reflectors and arrays. The reflector antenna uses its geometry to create the desired phase across the aperture, while the array employs distinct elements fed with progressive phasing. Reflector antennas are advantageous in the fact that they typically exhibit large bandwidth and low loss. The main disadvantage of the reflector is the geometrical constraint it imposes on the design. The most popular reflector, the parabolic reflector, also exhibits inherently high cross polarization levels. Microstrip patch arrays are lightweight, low-profile antennas that are capable of low cross polarization levels but typically have small bandwidth and fairly large loss at microwave frequencies. The more attractive features of reflectors and arrays are combined in the reflectarray. The steps taken in the design of a microstrip reflectarray using patches of variable size are outlined. Measured and theoretical results are shown for the finished design, and several important performance criteria are compared with the microstrip reflectarray.

17 Jul 2002TL;DR: In this paper, an Interactive Satellite Terminal antenna system consisting of an antenna to which is associated a feed horn is described, which is characterized in that it comprises an elliptical parabolic main reflector and a corrugated feed horn having an outer elliptical aperture and an inner cylindrical waveguide with an inner portion and a step section.
Abstract: The invention relates to a Interactive Satellite Terminal antenna system comprising an antenna to which is associated a feed horn. This antenna systems characterized in that it comprises an elliptical parabolic main reflector and a corrugated feed horn ( 2 ) having an outer elliptical aperture and an inner cylindrical waveguide with an inner portion ( 7 ) and a step section ( 8 ) and in that cavity elements ( 10 ) are added to the step section ( 8 ) for compensating cross-polar components. The invention can be used in antenna systems.

TL;DR: A steerable feeder link antenna is formed of a steerable reflector and a stationary feed horn assembly, which allows dual mode transmit and receive functions for circularly polarized microwaves as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A steerable feeder link antenna is formed of a steerable reflector and a stationary feed horn assembly. A novel feed horn assembly allows dual mode transmit and receive functions for circularly polarized microwaves. The feed horn assembly includes a four arm turnstile junction coupled to a feed horn through the feed horn's side wall to couple transmit frequencies and an axially coupled transmission line for the receive frequencies. Each turnstile junction arm incorporates chokes for the receive frequencies. The transmission line's cut off frequency is above the transmit frequency to prevent transmit signals from interfering with receive signal receivers.

09 Dec 1987TL;DR: In this paper, a feed horn comprising a radiating portion having a circular aperture, a transition formed by progressively varying waveguide sections and a flange which provides a coupling with a rectangular waveguide is fabricated from moldable material and designed to be fixed in a support.
Abstract: A feed horn comprising a radiating portion having a circular aperture, a transition formed by progressively varying waveguide sections and a flange which provides a coupling with a rectangular waveguide is fabricated from moldable material and designed to be fixed in a support. The radiating portion of the horn is formed by a cylindrical flange having at least two concentric grooves which form two traps.
