22 Jun 1987TL;DR: In this paper, a reflector-type microwave antenna includes a paraboloidal reflector and a feed horn located at the focal point of the reflector for launching and receiving microwave signals from the reflectors.
Abstract: A reflector-type microwave antenna includes a paraboloidal reflector and a feed horn located at the focal point of the reflector for launching microwave signals onto the reflector and receiving microwave signals from the reflector. A supporting frame for the reflector and feed horn includes three arms extending along the rear side of the reflector to three spaced mounting locations on the rear side of the reflector. The arms are fastened to the spaced mounting locations on the rear side of the reflector by fastening means having a loose condition in which the arm is attached to the reflector but free to move relative to the reflector, and a tightened condition in which the respective arm is rigidly attached to the reflector. The fastening also includes swivel means for permitting tilting movement of the arm relative to the reflector surface when the fastening means is in the loose condition, and permitting the arm to assume different positions relative to the reflector when the fastening means is in the tightened condition. In its preferred form, the fastening means includes a cupped member having a peripheral flange secured to the rear side of the reflector so that forces transmitted between the respective arms and the reflector are distributed over the area of the reflector encompassed by the flanges.

01 Sep 1948TL;DR: In this paper, a set of radiation patterns of rectangular electromagnetic horn antennas have been measured and shown as a function of electric and magnetic plane flare angles and radial length of the horn.
Abstract: A systematized set of radiation patterns of rectangular electromagnetic horn antennas have been measured and are shown as a function of electric and magnetic plane flare angles and radial length of the horn. A total of two hundred and fifty patterns are included for representative flare angles from zero to 50°, and radial lengths from zero to fifty wavelengths. This set of patterns reveals many characteristic properties which may serve as a guide in the design of electromagnetic horn antennas.

29 Aug 2002TL;DR: In this paper, a ring focus antenna with a main reflector of revolution shaped as a non-regular ellipsoid having a ring-shaped focal point about the boresight axis is proposed.
Abstract: A ring focus antenna and method of using same. The ring focus antenna can have a main reflector of revolution shaped as a non-regular paraboloid about a boresight axis of the antenna. A sub-reflector/feed pair is provided comprising a sub-reflector of revolution shaped as a non-regular ellipsoid having a ring-shaped focal point about the boresight axis. A feed element is installed at a feed element location separated spaced from a vertex of the sub-reflector on the boresight axis of the antenna. The main reflector is adapted for operation with multiple sub-reflector/feed pairs having a coupled configuration, and multiple sub-reflector/feed pairs having a decoupled configuration (i.e. classical optical dual reflector system). The main reflector is operable at a plurality of spectrally offset frequency bands. For example, the antenna can be designed for operation over C-band, X-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band.

01 Nov 2006TL;DR: In this paper, a new design for broadband EMC double ridged guide horn (DRGH) antennas has been presented, which not only has considerably better performance but also has smaller physical dimensions and less weight in comparison with the conventional one.
Abstract: A new design for broadband EMC double ridged guide horn (DRGH) antennas is presented. A conventional 1-18 GHz double ridged guide horn has been investigated rigorously. Then some modifications have been performed in the structure of the antenna. Elimination of radiation pattern deficiencies especially at higher frequencies accompanying with better EM characteristics of the antenna have been the main purposes for these modifications. The main modifications are imposed on the profile of ridges, H-plane flares and E-plane flares. The resulting antenna not only has considerably better performance but also has smaller physical dimensions and less weight in comparison with the conventional one.

TL;DR: In this paper, a full scattering matrix approach based on a combination of standard waveguide modes and quasi-optical Gaussian beam modes is used to analyse standing waves due to partial reflections, in which track is kept of both the backward and forward going components of the propagating fields.
