TL;DR: In this paper, a microstrip antenna on a micromachined 635-/spl mu/m thick substrate was used to synthesize a localized low dielectric-constant environment.
Abstract: Micromachining techniques using closely spaced holes have been used underneath a microstrip antenna on a high dielectric-constant substrate (/spl epsiv//sub r/=10.8) to synthesize a localized low dielectric-constant environment (/spl epsiv//sub r/=2.3). The measured radiation efficiency of a microstrip antenna on a micromachined 635-/spl mu/m thick /spl epsiv//sub r/=10.8 Duroid 6010 substrate increased from 48/spl plusmn/3% to 73/spl plusmn/3% at 12.8-13.0 GHz (including 3.3-cm feed line losses). We believe that this technique can be applied to millimeter-wave antennas (microstrip, dipoles, slots, etc.) on silicon and GaAs substrates to result in relatively wideband (3-6%) monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMIC) active antenna modules for phased-arrays and collision-avoidance systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, a coplanar waveguide-to-coplanar strips (CPW-toCPS) balun is used to obtain the balanced feed line for the printed bow-tie.
Abstract: The design of coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed bow-tie antenna for the 2.4-GHz ISM band is described. A coplanar waveguide-to-coplanar strips (CPW-to-CPS) balun is used to obtain the balanced feed line for the printed bow-tie. An analysis method based on the mixed potential integral equation method is used to characterize the input characteristics of the bow-tie antenna. The numerical results obtained are in good agreement with the experimental data. Through experiments with bow-tie antennas of various extended angles, the bow-tie antenna with a 90/spl deg/ extended angle exhibits the widest bandwidth in the desired frequency band which has a bandwidth of 17% for a VSWR <1.5:1.

TL;DR: In this paper, the resonant frequencies of a microstrip-ring resonator capacitively coupled to a feed line were accurately analyzed using a transmission-line model, making use of ABCD and Y-admittance matrices.
Abstract: The resonant frequencies of a microstrip-ring resonator capacitively coupled to a feed line are accurately analyzed using a transmission-line model. By making use of ABCD- and Y-admittance matrices, a compact closed-form expression for the input impedance of the ring alone is analytically derived and shows that the ring ran be equivalently viewed as a frequency-dependent capacitor. The coupling gap is then modeled by an equivalent L-network comprising a parallel and a series gap capacitance obtained by modifying Garg and Bahl's closed-form expressions for an end-to-end microstrip gap. By simplifying the parallel and series combinations of the overall equivalent circuit, the total input impedance looking from the feed line to the gap is analytically derived to predict the resonant frequencies. To verify the analysis, the resonant frequencies of the capacitively coupled ring resonator have been accurately measured, with the experimental results showing very good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a planar or curved radiating element is attached near one edge of a coaxial cable for receiving and/or transmitting RF signals in a lobe that is substantially perpendicular to the ground plane element.
Abstract: A Radio Frequency (RF) microstrip antenna employs a planar or curved radiator element (302) that is mounted or supported in spaced relation to a planar or curved ground plane element (304). An RF feed is attached near one edge of the radiator element for receiving and/or transmitting RF signals in a lobe that is substantially perpendicular to the ground plane element. The radiator element and the ground plane element are maintained in a converging, inclined or tilted physical relationship. When a coaxial cable (303) is employed as the antenna feed, the cable's outer insulating is secured to the ground plane element, the cable's center conductor extends away from the ground plane element to provide signal feed to the radiator element and to provide physical support for one edge of the radiator element, and two insulator posts (325, 326) extend away from the ground plane element to provide support for the opposite edge of the radiator element. A two-piece, snap-together, radome (301) is provided, wherein a bottom half (300) nonmovably supports the feed line and ground element and adjustably supports the inclined radiating element, wherein a top half (305) snap-fits to the bottom half, and wherein the top half includes internal extending tabs that engage edge portions of the ground plane member.

TL;DR: In this article, a rod-shaped radiating element has a first portion of a predetermined length connected to a coaxial feed line, and a second portion integrally extended from the first portion.
Abstract: A dual band antenna for mobile communications includes a rod-shaped radiating element having a first portion of a predetermined length connected to a coaxial feed line, and a second portion of a specified length integrally extended from the first portion. The coaxial feed line connects to a ground plate, and a first capacitive load connects to the first portion of the radiating element. A choke surrounds the second portion of the radiating element, and has a shorting end connected to a distal end of the second portion and an open end at a proximal end of the second portion. A second capacitive load connects to the shorting end of the choke. In a higher operating band of the dual band, the input impedance of the choke is high, such that only the first (lower) portion of the radiating element radiates. At a lower operating band of the dual band, the choke's input impedance is lower to allow for radiation from the entire length of the antenna.

Abstract: A branch-line coupler using eight stubs is proposed for size reduction. As for the stubs, a structure consisting of two sections of high and low impedance transmission lines is presented in order to connect a low impedance stub to a signal line. According to transmission line theory, no practical differences are found in the frequency characteristics between the normal hybrid and an experimental circuit, except for slight differences in higher frequency region over the center frequency. The experimental circuit was reduced to 25% in area, and showed good agreement with theory.

Abstract: A digital transmission network comprises a plurality of transmission terminals and receiving terminals, which are all connected with each other by a transmission line of a metal cable or optical fiber cable in the form of loop. Signals are transmitted by timeshare multiplexing in one direction. An individual time slot which is defined for each transmission terminal by time sharing multiplexing is allocated to each of all transmitted signals. A timing device is inserted into the loop for retransmitting a signal so that the delay time is corrected to the delay time of one frame including the delay time caused by the transmission line, cable and the like so that the consecutive frames are continuous. The transmission line is in single or dual loop. In case of the single loop, the transmission terminal includes a bypass circuit for bypassing a signal input to the transmission line if necessary. In case where the transmission line is in a dual loop comprising optical fiber cables of a working line and backup line, a control signal of loop-back is transmitted to all receiving terminals from a receiving terminal which serves as a central unit to bring all receiving terminals into a state enabling signals to be input from the optical fiber cable of the backup line. A control signal is transmitted which returns the receiving terminals into a state enabling signals to be input from the working line in order of proximity to the central unit for confirming that the receiving terminals are normally operating in order of proximity to the central unit.

TL;DR: In this article, a low pass filter section of the RF matching network suppresses transient and ringing signals which might pass through the parasitic capacitance of the relay circuit and which trigger the prematurely trigger the DUT.
Abstract: An RF matching network provides matching between a charged first transmission line and a relay circuit which is switched to connect the charged transmission line to one end of a second transmission line to generate a high-voltage, high-current test pulse for a DUT connected to the other end of the second transmission line. A low pass filter section of the RF matching network suppresses transient and ringing signals which might pass through the parasitic capacitance of the relay circuit and which trigger the prematurely trigger the DUT. To remove residual charge after discharging the first transmission line, the transmission line is grounded with a GND relay before leakage tests are conducted to prevent electrically stress of destruction of leakage testing circuitry if the residual charge is not dissipated before testing for leakage. Termination resistors for the first transmission line are made of material, such as ceramic, that will not change characteristics with high current and will not breakdown in the presence of high electric fields.

Abstract: An interleaved planar array antenna system providing angularly adjustable linearly polarized beams comprises an array of parallel rows of transmit dipole element pairs and an array of parallel rows of receive dipole element pairs, the two arrays being interleaved. Each of the dipole element pairs includes a first dipole element and a second dipole element adjacent and orthogonal to the first dipole element. All of the first dipole elements are parallel to each other and all of the second dipole elements are parallel to each other. All of the dipole elements are on the same surface and on another surface parallel to and spaced from the first surface there is an array of transmit feed line pairs and an array of receive feed line pairs, with the arrays being interleaved with each other. The transmit feed line pairs are proximity coupled to the transmit dipole element pairs and the receive feed line pairs are proximity coupled to the receive dipole element pairs. By controlling the relative amplitudes and phases of signals applied to the two feed lines within each feed line pair, the resultant angle of linear polarization of a composite signal from the respective dipole element pairs is adjustable.
