TL;DR: The principles of use of gratings as laser wavelength-selective end reflectors are reviewed and a useful output beam can be derived from a grating's zeroth-order reflection.
Abstract: The principles of use of gratings as laser wavelength-selective end reflectors are reviewed A useful output beam can be derived from a grating's zeroth-order reflection This beam moves when the grating is rotated to select various laser wavelengths, but can be made stationary by the addition of auxiliary mirrors The grating-mirror combination has been applied to a CO(2) laser in the in and to a dye laser in the visible

Abstract: Bragg reflection of light from a phase grating has been used as a technique for the investigation of nonlinear optical phenomena A continuous argon ion laser was used to probe the structure induced in a liquid by the nonlinear interaction of a high-intensity ruby-laser beam with that liquid This arrangement had the advantage of allowing direct space and time-resolved measurements of the induced effects

TL;DR: In this article, an efficient tunable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser utilizing a single fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and an optical circulator is investigated.
Abstract: An efficient tunable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser utilizing a single fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and an optical circulator is investigated. The laser demonstrates a threshold of 3.43 mW and a slope efficiency of 12.5%. Tunability of the fiber laser is obtained by thermal tuning of the FBG. Simultaneous temperature tuning demonstrates a 0.01 nm/oC variation in laser wavelength. Key Words : Fiber Bragg grating, fiber laser, tunable laser, ring laser, thermal tuning
