Abstract: PURPOSE: To produce a high strength brazing sheet by subjecting an Al alloy contg. specified amounts of Si, Fe, Cu, Mn, Mg, Cr, Zr and Ti to specified heat treatment and cold rolling to form into a core material. CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy having a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.05 to 0.80% Si, 0.05 to 0.6% Fe, 0.1 to 1.0% Cu, 0.6 to 1.6% Mn and 0.05 to 0.5% Mg, and furthermore contg. one or more kinds among Cr, Zr and Ti respectively by ≤0.3%, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities is used as a core material. This core material is obtd. by subjecting the ingot of the same Al alloy to homogenizing treatment at ≤500°C if necessary, subjecting it to hot rolling after heating to ≥500°C and executing cold rolling and annealing to regulate its final cold rolling ratio to 20 to 80%. As for its metallic structure, intermetallic compounds of 0.02 to 0.2μm are contained by 10 to 2000 pieces/μm 2 . Both sides of this core material are provided with an Al Si alloy brazing filler metal and an Al alloy material for sacrificial effect, by which the high strength brazing sheet excellent in brazing property and corrosion resistance can be obtd. Abstract: Friction stir welding is enhanced by preheating of the workpiece with an electrical arc, such as an arc applied by a common gas-tungsten arc welding (GTAW) torch. As the arc is moved about a path on the workpiece, it preheats or partially welds the path, with the friction stir welding head following along the path to complete the weld.
