TL;DR: Flexible printed circuits have one or more substantially rigid regions where plated thru-holes are to be formed, the regions being made rigid by the substitution of epoxy glass or other conventional rigid printed circuit board materials in place of the flexible material used for the flexible portions of the circuit as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Flexible printed circuits and methods of fabricating and forming plated thru-holes therein are disclosed. The flexible printed circuits have one or more substantially rigid regions where plated thru-holes are to be formed, the regions being made rigid by the substitution of epoxy glass or other conventional rigid printed circuit board materials in place of the flexible material used for the flexible portions of the circuit. In this manner the thru-holes are formed through conventional printed circuit board layers, allowing plating of the thru-holes using conventional well developed techniques. This process avoids the necessity of plating thru-holes in flexible printed circuit materials currently requiring special equipment and techniques, and further avoids stress concentration at the junction between the rigid plated thru-holes and the adjacent flexible printed circuit. Various methods for forming such circuits and circuits so formed are disclosed.

TL;DR: In this article, a coupling device for connecting two relatively rotating members 5,6 consists of a flexible web incorporating two or more conductors, e.g., electrical connectors, interspersed with thin constant tension springs 8 each end being secured to a respective rotating member.
Abstract: A coupling device for connecting two relatively rotating members 5,6 consists of a flexible web incorporating two or more conductors, e.g. a flexible printed circuit 1, disposed in a convoluted S- form between the said members, each end being secured to a respective rotating member that is provided with a respective input and output connection e.g., electrical connectors. Preferably the conductors are interspersed with thin constant tension springs 8 each end being secured to a respective rotating member. The flexible conductors may also be in the form of optical fibres laid in parallel on a flexible substrate for use in optical fibre transmission systems, or in the form of micro bore flexible tubes laid in parallel on a flexible substrate for use in hydraulic/pneumatic power transmission systems. The relatively rotatable members may be mounted on a common axis and either radially or axially spaced (e.g. Figs. 3, 4, not shown). In use, the limits of relative rotation of the members 5,6 are defined by the points where the bend in the web 1 travels to the respective ends 2, 3.

TL;DR: In this article, a polyimide film is used as both an adhesive and an insulating layer for lamination, which is inserted between a film without adhesive property and a metal foil to laminate both film and foil.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a circuit board having all good heat resistance, electrical characteristic, adhesive property, mechanical characteristic, e.g. flexibility, and dimensional stability, by laminating a metal foil to a thermosetting polyimide film with a specific polyimide film as an adhesive. CONSTITUTION: A polyimide film produced by reacting a symmetric aromatic primary amine group containing a symmetric aromatic meta-substituted primary amine at 100W20% equivalent ratio with an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid anhydride is used as an adhesive in laminating a metal foil to a thermosetting polyimide film. The formed polyimide film is inserted between a film without adhesive property and a metal foil to laminate both film and foil while heating under pressure. The above-mentioned formed film is used as both an adhesive and an insulating layer for lamination. COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: In this article, a flexible printed circuit board with a very fine pitch between lead lines is presented, which allows the formation of the wiring pattern of a coupling portion with the circuit portion.
Abstract: A printed circuit terminal device which includes a terminal array having very fine pitch between lead lines from a circuit portion including a flexible printed circuit board having a terminal array pattern which corresponds to the terminal array and wiring pattern and which are arranged to alternately extend from two sides of the terminal array pattern thus changing the pitch of the wiring pattern on the flexible printed circuit board to be twice that of the pitch of the wiring pattern of the terminal array. This allows a circuit to be easily and reliably coupled to the electrical terminals having very fine pitch and the formation of the wiring pattern of a coupling portion with the circuit portion can be easily performed and results in an arrangement of very small size. The flexible printed circuit board can be manufactured at low cost and the yield can be increased. Also, circuit elements such as resistors can be mounted on the wiring pattern without changing the wiring pitch.

Then, the adhesive 2 is cured by heating, and it is coated with an etching resist 7. A conductor circuit 8 is formed, and necessary parts are coated 9 by insulation. Afterwards, an IC10 is bonded and sealed with a molding agent 13. The whole is cut at parts of cutting lines 11. This manufacture can yield the titled circuits board serving also for IC bonding of high accuracy and full bendability.

TL;DR: In this paper, an interference suppressor filter for electronic control devices in motor vehicles is proposed, which is used to damp radio-frequency interference waves which pass via the plugs for connecting the control devices to motor vehicle units to be controlled into the control device and can disturb the functioning of the sensitive circuit elements of the control unit.
Abstract: An interference suppressor filter for electronic control devices in motor vehicles is proposed which is used to damp radio-frequency interference waves which pass via the plugs for connecting the control devices to motor vehicle units to be controlled into the control device and can disturb the functioning of the sensitive circuit elements of the control unit of the control device. In order to achieve effective damping of the interference effects with the aid of simple means which save on cost and space, an interference suppressor filter is arranged as a L-filter at the input of the interfering effects, namely the plug (3). The inductively operating switching element of the filter is constructed as a extended terminal end (6) of the plug (3) with a ferrite ring (11) surrounding the latter. The capacitively operating switching element consists of a printed capacitor (13, 14) on a flexible printed circuit board (9). The capacitor part (13) which is connected to radio frequency simultaneously forms the line between the plugs (3) and the printed conductors and circuit elements (8) on the printed circuit board (7) of the electronic control device, while the other capacitor part (14) carries earth potential.

TL;DR: In this paper, a polyimide film layer on a metal foil is formed and a solution containing 8W40wt% of polyamide acid or polyimides is emitted to the surface of the metal foil from a film forming slit to uniformly coat said metal foil.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of a polymer, in preparing a flexible printed circuit board according to a direct coating method, by performing at least one of a polyamide acid coating process, a solvent removing process and a curing process under an oxygen free atmosphere. CONSTITUTION: In forming a polyimide film layer on a metal foil, a solution containing 8W40wt% of polyamide acid or polyimide is emitted to the surface of the metal foil from a film forming slit to uniformly coat said metal foil. The solvent of the polymer solution directly applied to the metal foil by the above mentioned method is removed under heating at 60W200°C and the coating layer is heated to 200W450°C at last to perform curing. Among a series of coating, solvent removing and curing processes, oxygen is cut off especially at least at the time of intensive heating performing curing to make it possible to suppress the deterioration of the polyimide film to a large extent.
