TL;DR: An ecological framework for conceptualizing the many food environments and conditions that influence food choices is described, with an emphasis on current knowledge regarding the home, child care, school, work site, retail store, and restaurant settings.
Abstract: Food and eating environments likely contribute to the increasing epidemic of obesity and chronic diseases, over and above individual factors such as knowledge, skills, and motivation. Environmental and policy interventions may be among the most effective strategies for creating population-wide improvements in eating. This review describes an ecological framework for conceptualizing the many food environments and conditions that influence food choices, with an emphasis on current knowledge regarding the home, child care, school, work site, retail store, and restaurant settings. Important issues of disparities in food access for low-income and minority groups and macrolevel issues are also reviewed. The status of measurement and evaluation of nutrition environments and the need for action to improve health are highlighted.

TL;DR: The importance of food quality relative to other environmental factors and organism adaptations that influence post-inges tive food utilization and growth performance of immature arthropods is assessed.
Abstract: An understanding of insect ecology has been hampered by an inadequate knowledge of nutritional physiology. The effects of food quality upon physi ology and behavior (24, 102, 185, 285) and at the population and ecosystem levels (107, 209) are too often neglected. Nutritional ecology is central to proper interpretations of life history phenomena (e.g. manner of feeding, habitat selection, defense, and reproduction) both in ecological and evolu tionary time. Careful consideration of present and future information on this topic can lead to better predictive capabilities in both coevolutionary theory and pest management. In this review we assess the importance of food quality relative to other environmental factors and organism adaptations that influence post-inges tive food utilization and growth performance of immature arthropods. Reviewed elsewhere are pre-ingestive factors affecting food choice and con sumption (52, 73, 142, 154), nutritional requirements (67, 129, 226, 252), and the physiology of food consumption and utilization (19, 130, 270).

TL;DR: The American Cancer Society (ACS) conducted a study with a group of experts in nutrition, physical activity, and cancer survivorship to evaluate the scientific evidence and best clinical practices related to optimal nutrition and physical activity after the diagnosis of cancer.
Abstract: Cancer survivors are often highly motivated to seek information about food choices, physical activity, and dietary supplements to improve their treatment outcomes, quality of life, and overall survival. To address these concerns, the American Cancer Society (ACS) convened a group of experts in nutrition, physical activity, and cancer survivorship to evaluate the scientific evidence and best clinical practices related to optimal nutrition and physical activity after the diagnosis of cancer. This report summarizes their findings and is intended to present health care providers with the best possible information with which to help cancer survivors and their families make informed choices related to nutrition and physical activity. The report discusses nutrition and physical activity guidelines during the continuum of cancer care, briefly highlighting important issues during cancer treatment and for patients with advanced cancer, but focusing largely on the needs of the population of individuals who are disease free or who have stable disease following their recovery from treatment. It also discusses select nutrition and physical activity issues such as body weight, food choices, food safety, and dietary supplements; issues related to selected cancer sites; and common questions about diet, physical activity, and cancer survivorship.

TL;DR: The authors reviewed consumer quality perception using the Total Food Quality Model as a structuring device and concluded that food quality and safety are central issues in today's food economics, though many research questions remain to be addressed.
Abstract: Research on consumer quality perception is reviewed using the Total Food Quality Model as a structuring device. The relationship between food safety and quality is addressed, and is discussed in the context of research on consumer risk perception. Quality and safety perception is linked to food choice and consumer demand, addressing questions of price perception and the validity of willingness-to-pay measurements. It is concluded that food quality and safety are central issues in today’s food economics, though many research questions remain to be addressed.
