TL;DR: In this article, the dispersion characteristics of surface polaritons in GaP are measured and compared with theoretical calculations using optical four-wave mixing, and they demonstrate experimentally that optical fourwave mixing can be used to study surface polariton in solids.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors suggest that high-efficiency frequency upconversion and downconversion can be achieved by four-wave mixing in media containing infrared-active molecules, where the relatively large vibrational matrix elements and small energy denominators are used.
Abstract: We suggest that high‐efficiency frequency upconversion and downconversion can be achieved by four‐wave mixing in media containing infrared‐active molecules. The high‐efficiency results from the relatively large vibrational matrix elements and small energy denominators. Numerical calculations are presented for generation of radiation at 2ω1+ω2 in HCl where 2ω1 is tuned to an electric‐dipole‐forbidden vibration‐rotation transition. We also present some general considerations for four‐wave mixing in molecular media.

TL;DR: In this article, a dye laser tuned to the λ 7911 A intercombination line, 6s21S0-6s6p 3P1 and a ruby laser were observed to emit emission lines at fifty discrete wavelengths when Ba I is excited by two laser beams.
