TL;DR: In this paper, an all-optical AND logic gate based on the four-wave mixing (FWM) effect in an InGaAsP-InP microring resonator side-coupled to a bus waveguide, is proposed and simulated.
Abstract: An all-optical AND logic gate based on the four-wave mixing (FWM) effect in an InGaAsP-InP microring resonator side-coupled to a bus waveguide, is proposed and simulated. Using an ultrafast nonlinear process such as FWM, operation at a bit rate up to 160 Gb/s is demonstrated for the return-to-zero modulation format.

TL;DR: The results indicate that, for the case of a single-shot laser amplifier system, the beam distortion induced by this population induced change in the refractive index is comparable with the distortion arising from thermal effects.
Abstract: Degenerate four-wave mixing measurements were made on several Nd3+-doped laser materials by resonantly pumping the Nd3+ ions. The dominant contribution to the signal under these conditions is associated with the difference in polarizabilities of the Nd3+ ions in the metastable state versus the ground state. Absolute measurements of the signal strengths imply a laser-induced polarizability change of the order of 0.01–0.05 A3. The results indicate that, for the case of a single-shot laser amplifier system, the beam distortion induced by this population-induced change in the refractive index is comparable with the distortion arising from thermal effects.

TL;DR: In this paper, nearly degenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) of two copropagating light waves inside a traveling wave amplifier (1.3μm) at input light powers of less than 10μW was investigated.
Abstract: The letter reports on nearly degenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) of two copropagating light waves inside a travelling wave amplifier (1.3μm) at input light powers of less than 10μW. It describes the first experimental determination of the range of frequency spacing of the two light waves for efficient NDFWM and of the dependence on the state of polarisation.

TL;DR: In this article, a coherent superposition of a multiband octave-spanning spectrum obtained by highly nondegenerate cascaded four-wave mixing of femtosecond pulses in bulk isotropic nonresonant media is presented.
Abstract: We present a technique to synthesize high-power single-cycle pulses in the visible and ultraviolet ranges by coherent superposition of a multiband octave-spanning spectrum obtained by highly nondegenerate cascaded four-wave mixing of femtosecond pulses in bulk isotropic nonresonant media. The generation of coherent spectra spanning over two octaves in bandwidth is experimentally demonstrated using a thin fused silica slide. Full characterization of the intervening multicolored fields using frequency-resolved optical gating, where multiple cascaded orders have been measured simultaneously, supports the possibility of direct synthesis of near-single-cycle 2.2 fs visible-uv pulses without recurring to complex amplitude or phase control, which should enable many applications in science and technology.

TL;DR: Systematic measurements of the gain and delay spectra in a slow light system based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in optical fibers yield the system complex transfer function with which delays and signal distortion can be calculated for any input signal.
Abstract: We describe systematic measurements of the gain and delay spectra in a slow light system based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in optical fibers. The measurements yield the system complex transfer function with which delays and signal distortion can be calculated for any input signal. The theoretical predictions are confirmed experimentally for single pulses as well as 50 Mb/s data streams in a system which employs pump modulation to modify the gain and delay spectra of the SBS process.
