TL;DR: In this article, a manganese oxide OMS-2 was used for acid orange 7 (AO7) degradation in aqueous solutions and the effect of several parameters on its catalytic activity was investigated.
Abstract: Cryptomelane type manganese oxide OMS-2 was prepared and tested in heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for Acid Orange 7 (AO7) degradation in aqueous solutions. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, N 2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) were used to characterize the properties of the material. The effect of several parameters on its catalytic activity was also investigated. It was found that the catalyst was very active for AO7 and other organic dyes degradation, and presented a long-term stability during multiple runs. Results from XPS and ESR suggested that the highly catalytic efficiency possible involved the activation of PMS to sulfate radicals meditated by the redox pair of Mn(IV)/Mn(III) in OMS-2. Based on intermediate detections, the degradation pathway of AO7 in the OMS-2/PMS system was proposed.

TL;DR: In this paper, multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were chemically modified to form nanocomposite with thorium oxide and the average size of MWCNTs/ThO2 was in the range from 5 to 10nm.
Abstract: Multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were chemically modified to form nanocomposite with thorium oxide. The MWCNTs/ThO2 nanocomposite was characterized using different modern techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powdered diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and transmission electron microscope. The average size of MWCNTs/ThO2 nanocomposite was in the range from 5 to 10 nm. The nanocomposite material was investigated for its adsorption behavior for Pb(II) ions removal from its aqueous system. For the adsorption of Pb(II) by MWCNTs/ThO2, the equilibrium was achieved within 50 min. The temperature and pH have also found to play important role in the adsorption process and maximum adsorption was found at 45°C and pH 5.5.

TL;DR: In this article, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) is used as organosilane to decorate the surface of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets by SiO2 nanospheres via a facile method.
Abstract: In this research, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) is used as organosilane to decorate the surface of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets by SiO2 nanospheres via a facile method. Results of X-ray diffraction analysis, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy reveal that SiO2 nanospheres have covered the surface of GO sheets through covalent bonding and SiO2-GO nanohybrids are successfully synthesized. Further, the effect of incorporating 0.1 wt% GO nanosheets and/or SiO2-GO nanohybrids on properties of epoxy coatings is investigated. The results show that the pull-off adhesion strength of epoxy coatings to mild steel substrates and the water contact angle on coatings significantly increase via adding SiO2-GO nanohybrids. The potentiodynamic polarization test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and salt spray test results demonstrate that corrosion protection performance of epoxy coatings remarkably enhances by embedding well-distributed SiO2-GO nanohybrids compared to GO nanosheets.
