TL;DR: Isothermal self-sustained kinetic oscillations in CO oxidation over silica-supported Pt at near-atmospheric pressure were studied and indicate that during the high reactive periods the reaction mainly occurs on the oxide surface.
Abstract: Isothermal self-sustained kinetic oscillations in CO oxidation over silica-supported Pt at near-atmospheric pressure were studied by combined in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The use of a specially designed reactor and careful choice of the physical properties of the catalyst and reaction conditions made it possible to eliminate diffusion limitations, to determine the maximum CO oxidation rate per Pt site in the purely kinetic regime and to clarify the mechanism of the oscillations. Specifically, our results indicate that during the high reactive periods the reaction mainly occurs on the oxide surface.

TL;DR: In this paper, the second derivative infrared spectroscopy was used for trace gas analysis and an algorithm was described for numerical differentiation of a digitized infrared spectrum. But the analysis of trace gases was performed by computing the second derivatives of the spectrum.
Abstract: The analysis of trace gases by infrared spectroscopy is enhanced by computing the second derivative of the spectrum. The peak maxima are increased for sharp bands while contributions from broad, structureless, continua are reduced. For weak absorbers the peak maxima are linear in concentration. The advantages of second derivative infrared spectroscopy in trace gas analysis are illustrated, and an algorithm is described for numerical differentiation of a digitized infrared spectrum.

TL;DR: Fourier transform techniques in spectroscopy have been shown to offer significant improvements over classical dispersive methods in the study of infrared spectral features both in astronomical measurements and in laboratory studies as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Fourier transform techniques in spectroscopy have been shown to offer significant improvements over classical dispersive methods in the study of infrared spectral features both in astronomical measurements and in laboratory studies. These improvements result from now well known principles including spectral multiplexing, high etendue or throughput, and a significantly improved wave number scale.
